My boxer has nightmares from time to time. He really gets animated, jumping legs and tonight a lot of whimpering and distressed type sounds. I have woken him up in the past, a few times it really took a good shake to get him out of it. Should I wake him up when he's having a dream like that, or just let him be? I just feel so bad for the guy when he sounds like he's having a scary dream.

My dog is the exact same way...He crys...growls...barks...wags his tail..and his feet go a mile a minute...I usually leave him go...I'm not sure if you are to wake them up or not..Wish I could be of more help ![[Razz]](tongue.gif)

Hey there. My puppy Conan does the same thing. I normally just pet him to calm him down, and it seems to work. Maybe that would work for you too. Good luck!

All dogs do this, very normal, mine go into spasms, whine etc. If I think its a real bad one I will just gently rub their shoulder, if its just your normal running free in the field dream I leave them alone. Have you ever wondered what they are dreaming of, it has always facinated me.

If Twinkie is having a nightmare, I rub her on her head and call her name gently, then tell her it's okay. After that she's fine. If she's just having a dream, I leave her alone.

When he's having a troubled sleep, I'm a little leary that he may bite me when I wake him. Not that he would ever bite, but who knows what he's dreaming about - maybe fighting or being attacked...

Has he ever tried to bite you when awake? I would doubt he would when asleep if the answer is no. The trick is to gently touch them and talk to them at the same time so they are aware it is you.
