Hello folks,
I have a remote training collar for sale if anyone is interested, or knows of someone who would be. We used it to train our boxer (who we got as a rescue as a 5yr old) to come when called. It worked incredibly well! He's fully trained and we no longer require the collar.

$150 cdn. Comes with cary case, new battery, re-charger, dummy collar, and a charge tester. It has a 2 mile radius.

Is it adjustable to fit any size. How does it work, shock?

Thanks.

Yes, it's adjustable. There are quite a few holes in the leather. It wouldn't do on a very small dog though. And yes it does use a shock, tho I hate to use that word b/c it implies pain (to me anyway). But it's more like a Buzz. I tried it on myself before I used it on the dog. LOL! I'm not crazy, I just don't want to hurt him. It was unpleasant, but not painful. After the buzz stops, there is no residual sensation.

What breed dog do you have?

Rotti Purebreed. She's turning 4 months on May 5, but she has some aggression tendencies that everyone tells me I should stop now. I call it puppy temper but it could get worse in her "TEENAGER" months.

One of her bad habits is pulling the tail & scruff of my old dog.

She's very bright and learns most things quickly. She does growl over food and doesn't like to be disturbed in her bed.

Yes you sure do need to get on that now. Won't be long before she's a big brute. She needs to know that everything belongs to YOU. Her dog dish, and even her bed. She needs to learn that you ALLOW her to use these things. Whenever she act aggressive in these situations, you should tell her 'no' in a deep, firm voice. Grab her muzzle, and look her straight in the eye. If she attempts it again, flip her over on her back into that most submissive of positions. Growl NO at her and mean it. You should be able to take food out of your dogs mouth w/o her complaining about it. Also, I'd sit on her bed from time to time and not allow her to sit on it ocassionally as well. Make sure you mark your territory or she will take over!

I think the remote collar would better suit training to come when called, as for the other situations (discussed above) you really want her to respect and understand where she sits on the totem pole (lowest!). And that is best determined through your voice and body language.

The collar works wonders for dogs that bolt, refuse to come when called, or get agressive with other dogs. Our dog would be long gone by now if we hadn't stumbled across that training tool. He'd just run and run and run...

Her bed in in a crate so I can't sit on it. What I've been doing is saying her name very sternly and if necessary using her collar and removing her. She growls alot but most times without any malice - sometimes like she's trying to play. .

I sit with her while she eats- pet her - break her concentration and get her to come to me. It is only with food she really - really likes - knuckle bones, brocoli, etc She's doing better. Every night I pet her before going to bed. If she's quiet and submissive I praise her - if she's not I continue until she is.

She's not a bolter and comes (at a gallop) when called very consistently. I spoke to my Vet & her breeder and both agree it is typical of the breed to be a little bossy (must be the German in them - but I'm german too). I have been debating whether to reduce her to a twice daily feeding instead of making dry dog food available so that I control all food. She has already learned to control her bite so she doesn't hurt anymore. I routinely put her on her back (to clean her bottom, etc.)

We are going to be starting our formal training next month.

Anything she doesn't like doing - we do more often.
