Mario, you forgot to tell us where to look once we entered the address? Have no idea where to find anything on adopting dogs.

Mario, I scrolled down but only read an article on buying a purebred, while shelter dogs are free, you don't know their charateristics.

"Putting the Fun in Refund". The author of the article suggested that, rather then getting a "free" puppy at an animal shelter, readers should use their income tax refund to purchase a registered, pedigreed puppy. By so doing, they would know for sure what kind of dog they were getting and they could later breed the dog for stud fees or sell the puppies for a nice financial reward.
Here's what I got from another forum. Barbara Smith, I don't quite understand what you're asking. [ April 22, 2004, 05:49 PM: Message edited by: MarioLuigi ]

Well I'm sorry, but I did'nt see anything in there that stated selling pups for a nice financial reward, I went into one of the links but there was nothing there. As far as putting up a purebred for stud and earning a few bucks, I would be careful what you say, go check out looking for a German Shepherd to breed in General Dog Chat!!! You will get many different and varied opinions there.

I personally don't care whether or not people here agree with me. I have an opinion like everyone else. Here's mine clear as day! I want anyone else who thinks this is wrong to e-mail these people. I'm posting it lots of places because I disagree with it. And I don't think dogs should be used for money.

I don't see anything wrong in this article, it does not say in any way whatsoever not to adopt an animal, it only states if you want certain charateristics to go for purebred. It neither states anything about making money on puppies, only that you can stud your male out, there is nothing wrong in that either. Are you trying to say that we should not purchase purebred dogs anymore and go and adopt a dog instead.

I disagree with Mario about "DOGS should not be used to make money" Many of today's breeds exist only because some farmer needed to protect his "GRAZING MONEY"
No "good breeder" is going to get rich off of puppy sales. Owning & caring for dogs is an expensive venture, and if some of it can be offset by stud fees - that money usually goes back toward the care of the animal.
There are several postings in this site where we have discussed the merits of the "GOOD BREEDER" vs the "PUPPY MILLS"

Here, Here, Doglover, He just touched a nerve in me, I was about to explode at him, but I thought no, keep your cool. Wally is used many times, but it has taken so much money and research to get a darn good stud dog, not to mention all the food, vaccinations, shelter, kennels, fencing, etc etc. I would have spent easy on 3 dogs this year alone around $6000 aus. dollars.

i agree with a few things that have been said. there are good breeders that do breed their dogs for money. and yes it costs a lot to do it, but u have to stop to think about it to, those people are breeding small amount of puppies that are well taken care of and sold to people who take good care of them as well. Some people are not cut out to adopt from shelters. It takes a lot of time and and love for those dogs. I have seen meny dogs adopted from our local pound that was abused in diff. ways and had to be retrained as well as a lot of time spent to help them get over the mental problems cuased by abuse. Like i said some people just cant do it, and the dog ends up back in the same pound, which they are then labled hard to adopt dogs and have a less chance to be adopted. Those dogs are then put to sleep. I do though hate breeding farms. those i am against. they should be shut down. They keep many breeds in small kennels and breed them as many times as they can. The dogs are never removed from the kennel accept to breed, are never groomed, played with, or even have human contact. People make big money with the farms and all at the animals health, mental health. those are the places people should not buy from. All in all, yes i think for people who have a big heart and the time, i think they should consider at lest looking at the dogs in ur nerby shelters, even u could go buy the purebreed and then get him/her a playmate from the shelter.
