I have a 6 week old lab mix. So far she has a puppy Kong, twist rope with knots at the ends, and tennis balls. Looking for other ideas of home-made toys or creative ways for her to entertain herself while we are away. She is outside in an enclosed area (it's warm in SoCAl)has a big doghouse. Thank you, Sanda

Puppies and dogs do not entertain themselves all that much. but they can do quite well on their own after they have gone through a 'owner involved' and loving first 4 to 6 months of puppy stage. A happy dog that does well on its own is the result of having a set routine that the dog begins to know and understand is dependable. Owner playtime is the best gift that a dog has in exchange for all the wonderful love they give to us in return. 4 hours a day spend playing with and working with a puppy is not too much for the baby dog.

Give her some water to play in, a kiddie hard plastic pool is great, also empty drink bottles, lid removed is good fun, put a few biscuits inside, an old leather boot, natural raw bones, a proper puppy's soft toy, they love to chew and lie on them, a puppy squeeky toy, mine love to hear it make the noise. They also like tug-o-war, I tie a hard piece of rope to something so they can pull on it.
I forgot, mine also have a great big round wooden stump with a ramp, they love running up and down and sitting up higher. [ May 17, 2004, 03:29 PM: Message edited by: ellierat ]
