Sorry, here comes another question from me! I tried posting this on a Yorkie site but the replies are in short dosages over there, so I am going to post it here too.
I have a Yorkie whom was a year old in middle May this year. We wanted a Yorkie for a very long time and were overwhelmed when we first brought this little pup home. We were prepared; I read anything I could lay my eyes on to find out everything about them. I saw at the vet that a healthy Yorkie will be about 3 to 3.5kg’s (6.6 to 7.7 pounds) when fully grown. The only thing is, my Yorkie did not stop growing. He weighs 6kg now (13.2 pounds) and is bigger than a Maltese poodle. I have never seen any Yorkie (exept mine of course!) this big! Why does this happen? His parents are both purebred and of normal Yorkie measurements and the rest of that same litter was fine. Does it happen often or are my little big Yorkie just one of a kind? His bone structure is also very big, not as petite as the Yorkies I have seen. And he is not fat, not at all, he is just BIG! I love him to bits, this big “York” of mine! I was just wondering, why he did not stop growing!
Also, he is not very affectionate. This worries me a bit. He will not jump up on my or any of my family members’ laps or come for attention. He prefers to play with the cats and his big brother Chow-chow. He won’t say no to some belly scratching, he just won’t be affectionate of his own accord. And I have read that Yorkies are very affectionate and loving dogs. My Chow is more affectionate than he is and if you know the temperament of Chows, well, enough said! I bought him when he was already four months old. We bought him from a lady that breeds and shows Yorkies, she has about 30 Yorkies which all stay in the house. Could this non-affectionate behaviour come from being around so many dogs and not getting enough human attention for himself as a pup and now does not no how to respond being the only little dog in the house or am I just being silly?

Hi there, well his height should be about 9in. at the withers. I don't know why he has grown so big, but just check his height to see how far off he is. You say you got him older, I would guess the breeder could probably see this if she had kept him for showing, and hence the reason for his sale. Sometimes genetics can throw out here and there, and go way back to a previous mating, eg. (great grandfather), she may have bred out at some time, to a larger dog. It happens in Labs too, some are short and stocky, some are too high and lanky, it goes back in the breeding. Your human socialization, it goes without saying, we all prefer to be with our own, you have other animals, as this dog is not one on one with you, it could be your problem, if you removed your other pets, he would probably come to you more as he would be more dependent on you for company, as this is not possible, try to spend some one on one with him everyday for at least an hour, see if it brings him round, offer treats, play, toys etc. special things for him and yourself.
-------------------- I love my labs.
