Oh Boy! My Chow has decided that he’s going to show me the naughty streak in him! Now normally, he does not do this but when we open the motor gate, he will hear a dog bark and dash off into the street to all the neighbours’ gates in the street or even run inside when he finds an open gate . He will run so fast and all over the place you just can’t keep up! He won’t listen to anyone and just keeps on running like a mad dog! Like I said, this only happens once in say 20 times we open the gate and only when he hears some dog (maybe it’s a lady dog in distress, how do I know!!) bark. Normally he is obedient and listens to me but on these occasions, he will hear nothing! I am so afraid that he might get hit by a car because he just runs without looking left or right! We always walk him and his brother on a leash, so they NEVER get outside without their leashes. What do I do? Will this phase pass? HOW do I let him know, you don’t do this EVER AGAIN young man! His little Yorkie brother ran along when this happened the first time but when I called him back he listened (much more obedient than his brother!). He since has not dashed along with big brother.

Something has certainly caught his attention, a bit of a worry for you. I would no longer trust him to not run out of the gate, unfortunately he has decided that when he wants to go, that's it, he's gonna run. Get the longest piece of rope you can, keep it at the gate, when you are going to open it, attach it to this little mans collar, let him run, he will soon run out of rope, then pull him back, saying come, give a treat or praise.

Or you could buy on of the training collars. I hear lots of good things about them.

Thanks, I will try the rope!
I knew beforehand that Chows are very stubborn dogs, I was ready for it! He is worth EVERYTHING I own, even if he IS a bit stubborn!
