I was telling a co-worker about my recent purchase of an electric training collar for my Weimaraner. (She is a wonderful dog, knows all of her commands, but, if she isn't on her checkcord and we give her the "here" (come) command, she tends to look at us as if to say "Nah, why don't you come here and then I will run to the neighbor's and play with their dog". ) Anyway, another co-worker, (who owned one dog in her life, for less than a year before she divorced and surrendered it), who has met my dog quite a few times, took it upon herself to criticize the way i raised/trained my dog and compared my weim to her out of control german shepard. Really? It may have been a dominance issue for her, but have you ever met a Weim? It's not that they don't know what you want, they just decide when they want to do it. She even went to the point of saying "Dogs aren't that smart..." I disagree.
I have played a major role in training all of the dogs my familiy owned when I lived at home, and have done nothing different with this one. Not to say that she isn't spoiled, but she does know who is boss.
Sorry for the rant... But, WHO DOES SHE THINK SHE IS??!!!

Tell her to go poke it where it fits, you have far more experience, that is easy to tell just by your posts. If she knew anything about dogs she would realize if your dog decides to go walkies alone it can not only be dangerous for your dog but other drivers, you are showing responsibility for your pets and that you care enough for his safety. Sometimes we have to do things that others don't quite agree with for their safety!!!

Well said. Just tell her that a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing and if you need her opinion - you'll find post a memo in the washroom where her opinion belongs!!
Don't ever let anyone tell you theirs is the BEST way as every dog is an individual as are they circumstances.

She tried to tell me that my dog had way too many problems to correct and that the training collar wouldn't do any good. Well, good thing that's not why I purchased it!! As ellierat said, it's for her safety..... That my dog chews shoes of they are left out she is home alone because we give her rawhide chews as toys and she doesn't know the difference..... Sorry to say, but if you saw her expression you would know that she does it because she is p-ssed we left her home alone!! She has a bit of separation anxiety and that has nothing to do with the way I trained (or didn;t train) my dog. That my dog jumps on people because I let her sit on my lap when she was a puppy... well, she still sits on my lap, and she only jumps on people THAT SHE KNOWS WILL LET HER, and only once, right when they walk through the door. Again, I believe this to be part of her separation anxiety.
Anyway, another rant on the same topic... can you tell how infuriated I was!! You just don't criticize people in that way, on that subject. It's like telling someone that they raised thier child wrong!! YOU JUST DON'T DO THAT!!!!!

Weimlover, calm down, don't let this person get to you, sometimes everyone is the expert!!!(they think!!). You are doing what you are happy with, and that is all that matters, others can go jump. . Ask yourself: Is your dog loved? Is he well looked after? Are you happy with your dog? Is your family happy with your dog? If your answer is yes to all the above, who really gives a **** about this persons opinion, and that is all it is, you can take it or leave it, I personally, would leave it !!thanks!!! So get your head up high again, and be proud of your dog. I'm proud of mine, and to be honest, Sophie can be a real pain in the *** , others don't have to love her, BUT I DO, and that's all that matters.
