As you know Ellie is in heat, we have done everything we can to keep our dogs in, admitedly at the beginning they took off a few times, when searching for them we were told by a few neighbours if they see them they would shoot them. Now the tables are turned, mine are in and we have everyone's dogs jumping our fence to get to my Ellie.
It is sooo bad I can't even let her into the yard, or then into a pen to do her business without watching her. At night she has to stay shut in because of all these neighbours dogs wanting to get to her, and they can jump the fence cause Sophie...(not Wally) has be chasing them away.
I have no idea whose dogs they are or I would speak to the owners... any suggestions????

Since your neighbors were so understanding while their dog swere in het (NOT!!) why don't you give animal control a call when the males come back.... they can collect the dogs and return them to their owners. They'll tell them where their dogs were found and probably warn them to keep better track of the dogs..... better than threatening the animals, it's not their fault ellie is such a cutie [Blushing] LOL

Good Luck!!!

Loose dogs are unacceptable to me, but where im at unfortunately a fact of life.

When one of the females are in heat, it is unfortunately my problem to keep the males away.

Couple of things that you might look into.

Your fencing. No fence can keep em out really, but its a good start.

Panties, reduce the smell, and provide some small degree of cover.

Ive heard that Chlorophyl tabs reduce the odor.

They have medicines that if administered at the appropriate time can make a female skip her cycle, ive never used it and cannot reccomend it but its out there.

Also, if everything fails and you are unable to find a solution. Maybe you can board her for a while at a safe place able to accomodate her.

I didnt mention spaying as this is an obvious asnwer and something youve obviously decided against.

All of these suggestions have nothing to do with the fact that its so very unacceptable to let a dog roam freely forcing you to take measures to protect your girls. Its a **** shame. I would report those dogs/owners.

Thanks Goombaya, I really don't want to use the pills, I actually have some here, but I want to keep Ellies heat cycle the same, so many people have asked about her puppies that I am going to put her in again next year, but I want to do it in the winter time.
I may try some of the smell reducing preparations though, I didn't know about that.
She does have pants, but I only put them on when she is bleeding.
Luckily she is just about finished, and belive me if I knew the dogs owner I would have paid a visit. He seems to have departed now, touch wood, but the way he just jumped our fence I don't think a 10foot fence would have deterred this dog. LOL. Ellie is just tooo cute, they can't resist her charms.

Maybe you should try some red food color in a water pistol. Imagine that the owner would be pretty anxious when he see blood red splatters on his dog. It might scare some DOGGY sense into him about keeping his at home.
