We're going to get a dog, most likely a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. I'm definetly going to make sure it is this dog, as these are just the most amazing dogs I've ever come across. But, I had some questions. First off, its going to be a family dog, but no one in the house is young, as I am the youngest at 17. I know that Corgi's might be slightly prone to biting if provoked by small children, but that won't be happening, just love from our family. We want a house dog, not a farm one, and if I remember right, the Pembroke is better suited for that. It'll be an indoor dog as well, with numerous outings to play and such. What I'm wondering is, what diseases/genetic disorders do these dogs have? Our German Shepard recently died from Hip Displacia(I'm sure I spelt this wrong)/lower body paralyis, and it was heart wrenching; so if Corgi's are prone to a disease of this nature, meaning ones that have really no cure and are very common among them, then we will not get one. Only other thing I can think to ask is any kind of advice you can give on looking for a dog. We also are most likely going to get a female, because of the general personality of female dogs.

Thank you

I'm not really sure, I don't know a lot about corgis (although I think htey're some of the cutest dogs out there), but I'm guessing that they may have a problem with their backs after a while. It's just based on the fact that they have short legs and a long back, but I'm really not sure :-/ Something to look into, though.

BTW, welcome to the forum!

Actually, I've been reading more, and it looks like maybe the Cardigan Welsh Corgi might be better as a house dog. Which do you guys think would be better? It doesn't matter to me, I just want a Corgi, but I want one that would be happy at being a house dog. We have a reasonably big yard for it to run around in, and walks will be fun, but also the home asoect. It'll mostly be an indoor dog besides its excersizing habits. [Big Grin]

All breeds are subject to genetic disorders. Contact a reputible breeder and ask them those same questions. They will be more than willing to tell you about the breed and and potential disorders and what measures they have taken to prevent it as much as possible.
