There was a post written back somewhere, but I can't find it now, asking about the dominant gene in Labradors. If you still want to know, write in, cause I can't even remember who asked. Sorry, your post was not responded to.

Duuhhh!!! It's early Monday morning, I'm allowed. LOL. I reasearched on this, it's pretty complex apparently, I always thought black was the dominant, and if you mated yellow to yellow, there was no way of getting a black pup. But now I find that there is a black recessive gene in the yellows, or can be I should say. All the colors are capable of carrying any recessive color gene, except chocolate who can only carry the yellow recessive gene. It's all very interesting, and when Ellie was having pups it was quite fun, "this ones chocolate", "this ones black" etc.

ellierat... i posted this as its own topic, too, but search "silver labs" on the internet... (i pmd you wiht this question a while ago..lol). there is a claim that some chocolates are "silver factored" and will throw silver pups... they are registered as chocolate with AKC. some breeders are charging more for the silvers, even though they are considered a fault... weird...
