Hi Everybody!
I am new here. We have a male Saint Bernard/Collie mix that is a year old. His name is Bear. He is about 145 pounds and is a big baby! About 2 weeks ago we took in a stray female Saint Bernard, Jasmine. We had her a week and took her to the vet for her shots. We were told she had heartworms. So, we took her this week for her treatment. We did not have the heart to just sit around and wait for her to die! She had a little damage to the blood vessels leading to her lungs. The vet thinks she will be fine. Has anyone had to go through a dog with heartworms? What should I expect? She seems to be fine at home. (She is getting spoiled to being in the house!) She is a sweetheart and we have fallen inlove with her. So has Bear. He is sad because we are having to keep them apart for a month!

Bless your heart, no pun intended.
If the vet thinks the dog will be fine, keep spoiling her.

Hooray for Jasmine for finding such a caring person! I have never dealt with heartworm, but trust your vet. It is about all you can do at this point.

Welcome 2 Saints! How lucky Jasmine is to have run into you! Hope she does fine. Never had to deal with heartworms before. Poor Bear! He got a new playmate and can't even play with her. Tell him I'm sorry for him and give him a hug for me.
Hope you'll enjoy the forum!
