Talking Academic Help....About Dog Grooming...

Hello,

I am taking a class at the University of Washington in Seattle. As part of a marketing class, we had to come up with a business to market. We chose a combined Dog Groomer and Owners’ Day Spa. In order to gather marketing data, we came up with an online survey to get Spa and Groomer habit information from Dog and Cat owners.

Again, it is for academic purposes, gathers no personal data, and consists of only about 10 questions. It takes about 2 minutes to fill out.

You can access it at http://www.adamucci.net/marketing/survey.php. There is also a link to our Target Market and Product Overview on that page.

This is hosted on my personal, family website and is not a commercial venture in any way.

Thank you for your consideration. This would be a great help to us.

Personally, I don't do that kind of survey. But I would be happy to answer question directly. Just a thing I have...

In general, though, I think it may be difficult to pull off a human/pet spa for sanitary license reasons.

Thank you for replying to my post! That's a good point about sanitation. The only common area between the two would be a retail/reception area, but we hadn't thought of the sanitary aspect.

In order to improve on our survey, can you tell me what you keeps you away from this kind of survey?

One of the attributes of this survey is that it asks for no personal information, which was on purpose, so folks wouldn't shy away from it.

Thanks again for taking the time!

John

Just not something I do. Perhaps because I am old and curmudgeonly. I like to answer direct questions from people, not fill out a random form.

I've been in the grooming business for several decades (still dabble just for fun and as a backup for friends) and had thought of that type of business back in the eighties. There are some glitches - dogs take longer to groom than people do, and the sanitation - not sure how to work that with health regs.

Good luck on your thought, though.

I was thinking of the time difference. If an average dog groom takes 3-4 hours, what exactly is the human getting during this time that they are not just sitting around waiting.

another thing to think about is how are you going to seperate the dogs from the people?
some dogs..to say the very least do not like to be groomed must be muzzled, sometimes they will get cut...
what are the people in there going to think about this?
or are they going to be completely seperated?

Thanks for all the replies to the post....!

Just to clarify some things, and to answer some of the questions:

As for the timing, we're thinking in 3-4 hours at a spa an owner could do many things:
-Massage
-Facial
-Mani-Pedi
-Wax
Plus the at the salon, they could get a cut, color, perm (are those still done?!), highlights, etc.

As for separation, and time difference, we are imagining this:
A central reception / retail boutique where from which you and your pet go separate ways. Through one door, you have pets and the other door, people. We'd have trained staff at our scheduling center who can talk with the client about how long a certain pet service will take, and guide them in choosing services for themselves for an equal amount of time.

It may help to check out the Product Overview here (it's a PDF document): http://www.adamucci.net/marketing/MS...ctOverview.pdf

Thanks again for all your replies, and surveys....they are really helping out, and much appreciated. We have about 70 completed surveys so far...!

Best Regards,
John
