Ditto this.

I can make a nice website about my Bassecorgishepherd, write up some info and make a registry too. I'm not saying it's not a good start for those serious about making a breed of this cross, I just can't take it seriously yet.

Time will tell if the Labradoodle will ever make a definite breed. Because of it's notoriety as a 'fad mutt', I think it will take a lot of time and hard work to be taken seriously by any major kennel club.

What I want to know is, what is the purpose of the 'Labradoodle'? The Labrador was bred to be a hunting dog, as was the Poodle. For those who wanted a 'hypoallergenic' or low shedding dog, what was wrong with the Poodle? Or an Irish Water Spaniel? I was seriously considering the Poodle when looking at dog breeds, and from what I read they make great family dogs too.

Mutt.

There's nothing wrong with owning/rescueing one, but IMO there's plenty wrong with breeding them purposefully... Made up a word for that...

I have a mutt and I didn't pay a cent for her. Just the way it should be. People shouldn't profit from mistakes and they shouldn't gain from ignorance. Just my opinion.

The Doodle mixes are the new craze and will fade, like old news!.
You are now finding more and more of them,in rescues cos people find them, too hyper, too big and they shed, too much!.
The doodle is,also, more expensive than a purebred dog which is outrageous cos they have no health warranty which you would get, from a good breeder!.
My neighbour, got a goldendoodle(50%poodle/50% golden)and it was supposed to be none shedding!.
The dog looks like a golden and of course, sheds like one!.
Looking at him,you wouldn't know that he had poodle,in him!.
Just, that he was a poorly bred!.
I have met some cute ones but still, don't get why you want to create, new breeds when you have so many, beautiful, non shedding ones that are purebred:Airedale, schaunzer, poodle, wirehair terriers, wirehair dackshund,portugues/spanish water dog, curly coated retriever and many more!.
YES,doodles are mutts or if you prefer,a mix breed and yes, they are IN but for how long?.
We are seeing them, more and more in purebred rescues(golden, labs, poodles, schaunzers, etc)!.

Mutt with a non creative name.

West Virginia Brown Dog and Bouvenoibermanbull are creative names >;p (my boss made up these names for mutts because he said they were so ridiculous that no one would try to apply a standard to the name.)

the normal Labradoodle is a lab poodle cross, its a mutt, and ranges all over the map, there is no exuse to buy one or breed one.
Hey, really interesting site, thanks for the link

I haven't read this thread, but I will tell you first hand a few general observations of these Retriever & Poodle combinations.

1) They shed. I find that a major percentage of them shed and shed a lot. The Labrador x Poodles are mostly wire coats that shed like a wire haired jack would, in clumps, accompanied by a thick undercoat. The Golden Retriever x Poodles are even worse with the thick curls, thick undercoat, and layers of different layers of shedding.

2) The grooming is of two types a) intensive b) expensive

3) They are very rumbunctious dogs. We don't have many that are aggressive (a few, but not many), but they are giant and bouncy and difficult to control.

4) Most of them are huge! I have no idea how you take a Standard Poodle (55 lbs) and a Labrador (60 lbs) or Golden Retriever (65 lbs) and constantly come up with these massive 80-90 lb dogs. All the time. I don't get it.

5) Most of them drool a ton, and as a result they are stinky and always spit stained.
