Mister is on a distinguished road
Glucosamine and Chondrotin come from bone right? So if your feeding raw wouldnt you not feed a supplement with joint stuff?

I forgot I'd posted in this thread

For dogs your size you need to give a supplement with around 250mg of glucosamine and 200mg of chrondroitin daily. You can give human supplements but you might find they come in 500mg of glucosamine with 400mg of chrondroitin. In this case either split the tablet in half or just give one of these sized tablets every other day. If you can try to find a supplement that uses marine chrondroitin rather than bovine chrondroitin as this is supposed to be more beneficial.

If you can also give vit C (around 100mg daily).

MSM is also another good supplement for joints - around 300mg daily for dogs your size.

Mine get glucosamine/chondrotin ( but when shopping for Glucosamine make sure it's with hydrochloride..it's easier on their stomach and easier to digest). I also suppliment with missing link and yogurt and also fish oil capsule because the price of fish is usually pretty outrageous down here.

Also my girls get cranberry because Uma is a walking UTI.

Is the Vitamin C for joints as well? And is such a small dosage supposed to make a difference? I have introduced Vitamin C to Kirby (different reason), and he is already receiving 400-500 mg a day. He's a 6.5 kg dog.

The vit C works along side the glucosamine & chrondroitin to "increase" the effect on the joints. It's all about getting the right ratios.

Giving an increased dose of vit C won't hurt the dog (and in some cases can be beneficial) it's just to get the desired effect when using it with the glucosamine & chrondroitin you don't need a big dose.

Vit C on its own can help joints in humans and dogs but it's much better when giving with the glucosamine & chrondroitin.

Why is Kirby getting Vit C?

I just checked. In the cranberry suppliments there is a whole 50 mgs of Vit C. Oh well, it's better than nothing.
