Let's not forget Child Porngraphy... Free Speech?? Not in my world!

Dax, I did not say anything about lies, which is what libel, and slander is.
As for Canada, they are on their way to trying to control thoughts with their control of speech

Hate, and racist language are constitutionally protected speech in the USA.

One of the finest examples of Free speech today would be the Glen Beck show. The present leadership absolutely hates him, and wants to shut him down, but they can't because he has only spoken the truth, and has not libeled, or slandered anyone. When he calls the members of the administration Communists, and Socialists, who are trying to destroy this country, he can prove it by their own words, from past statements.

The UK recently Banned a Radio show host called Micheal Savage, from entering Britain, because they do not like what he says, however freedom of speech in this country allow Savage to have his opinion, and speak his mind, whether we like it or not

Freedom of speech will always be a good idea.

The truth always stands on its own merit.
When the truth makes leaders, and people uncomfortable, it is time for the leadership to re-evaluate themselves, and their agenda.

And what do you think these students posted? Do you think they posted about the political ramifications of the school system or do you think they posted that "such as such is a tool"?

Canada learned from World War II that certain individuals who may be in positions of power have the ability to create Hate by influences those of lower intelligence or age. This does not control what is said and done in one's home.

Anyone can feel and/or think whatever they want. They can not put graffetti on a wall even on a public building. Hmmm......

I guess your Freedom of Speech has boundaries...

The Supreme Court has also recognized that the government may prohibit some speech that may cause a breach of the peace or cause violence. For more on unprotected and less protected categories of speech see advocacy of illegal action, fighting words, commercial speech and obscenity. The right to free speech includes other mediums of expression that communicate a message. The level of protection speech receives also depends on the forum in which it takes place.

Also look up "Second Red Scare" " McCarthyism" and USA history in general.

We also have it relating to specific sites while you're at work (infact they are blocked) but most companies also have a clause relating to what you do OUTSIDE work (not just on the Internet but anything outside of work).

If there appears to be too much partying, underage drinking, use of drugs, violence, etc., they are being weeded out of the applicant pool. Employers say that in their eyes this is evidence that they won't be dependable to show up for work, that they are likely to have excessive absences and/or that there is potential for problems at the workplace. I tell my clients that when they are seeking employment, they need to "clean up" their page.
This is illegal in the UK - you are not allowed to "research" applicants to see what they may or may not have posted on the Internet and use this in the decision making process.

Interesting that Michael Savage can't even get right the name of the place where he has been banned from
