Question Out of these Breeds

At the Rodeo's a nice slice of people have dogs who have "horse sense"...dogs who can accompany you on road trips and trail riding and who wont have the tendency to pretend your horse is an ''over-sized'' snack.
These are 3 breeds I like, and have seen do very well around horses. Our German Shepherds arent good around horses and my brother took Sidnie back so, if I ever do decide to get a dog to accompany me in the Equine World which breed out of these 3 should I go for?

Australian Shepherd

Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler)

Golden Retriever
(Sorry Sharon I had to steal a picture of Sammy Boy because my picture of Casey the Golden wouldnt upload)

All the dogs shown here are actual dogs,I have met and seen work, excellent around horses. (except Sammy, but Casey does good and im sure Sammy could to lol)

I want a dog that will listen well, wont impose a threat on anyone including horses. Medium size is good, not to big to be harmful and not to small to get hurt easily.

Border Collie is a good choice also. I saw a BC on saturday from barrel Racing.

Not sure about Austrialian sheperds...
I think Rotties can herd horses too if trained early and properly....

Well I know all our German Shepherd bark constantly at King and even ran and bit him on the leg...King turned around "haha what are you doing" and gave a very powerful blow on Buddy's head then went and chased all the dogs, they all went running away scared.

King is good around dogs, hes been around alot of other peoples, ''horse dogs'' and was fine, he just will not put up with any nonsense though.

Thats why im unsure about Rotties, and I really dont need them to herd horses, just as a companion for me and the horse, a little group of 3.

BC's are a good breed to and Australian Shepherds do really well, along with heelers and goldens.

Our Dobermans are great around out horses and cpme riding with us all the time. They did however grow up around horses and that is part of what makes a dog good around horses. Being socialized around horses.

Herding dogs do, do well around horses BUT they need to be trained not to nip at the heels of a horse or try to herd a horse. I have seen the aftermath of what can happen to a dog when a horse gets peeved off at a dog for trying to herd it.

A friend has 2 ACD crossed with Border Collie's. The one liked to " herd " the horses. One day the second one, sho was not as likely to try this went out into the pasture while I was there feeding the horses and dogs for her. When I was not looking all I heard was a huge yip and I went flying out to the pasture to see Danny ( the horse ) stomping poor Jack the dog. I chased Dammy off and screamed for my Hubby to come. Jack had broken ribs, the top of his mouth was shattered and he now has a metal plate where his teeth and roof of his mouth were. His leg was broken in two places and he was horribly tramatized. It was awful because of course this had to happen when she was away. I did what I thought she would want me to and that was take him to the vet and get him fixed up, he was only a year old. He is fine and still goes out with his brother and harrasses the horse but they tend to stay a little farther away now. But if I was you, I would not get a herder unless you are going to train that dog really well to stay away from herding the horses.
