Im getting annoyed with people being breed specific!

I am probably going to get some angry responses back, but I dont understand why everyone is hooked on purebreds!!! I mean sure breeders are fine, but there are so many mutts that are euthanised each day. Purebreds are too!!! In Tucson we have an animal control that I've been working with (through rescue, and volunteering there) and each day a lot of dogs are put down! Some are purebreds that people dropped off because they were too much to handle or had health problems due to BYB's and I guess I just dont understand the craze! Its people that want purebreds that have created back yard breeders! If there wasnt such a want for 'pure' dogs then there wouldnt be so many!!! Most of the times that the dogs get mixed are because someone was thinking 'Oh, lets create a new breed' then one of the dogs got away and screwed some other 'mutts'...... WHY DO PEOPLE CARE WHAT THE DOGS BLOODLINES ARE?!?! So the neighbors dog came from Ruffles Charlington the third... WHO CARES?! My dogs are from 'no name and no name the second third or fourth'!!! I dont care that my dog doesnt have an elegant name!!! Shes still my dog, she still loves me and still does what I need her to do!!!! Which is be a dog! Breeds dont matter!!! PEOPLE ARE ALL MIXED BREEDS!!! Look at me, Im Irish and dutch... I have a friend thats blakc and white, another thats almost everything... No fuss it made over having purebred friends!!! Just like you can have a whole group of people, this is going to sound racist, they're all black... There are some people in this country that would look at that group of black people and think 'Troublemakers!!!' thats what some people have come ot think of: Rotts, Pits, Dobies, Chows, German Shepherds.... BUT REALLY IT DEPENDS ON THE PERSON (or dog).... Im probably not making sense anymore because Ive gone off in too many ways, but I just hate the fact that people want pure dogs

sorry, I posted this and then saw another post on how close you breed relatives....

THE MAIN REASON MUTTS ARE HEALTHIER (typically true!)
People dont screw their great great grandparents!!! just to keep the 'good look'....... JEEZE! Its so hard not to cuzz on this subject!

When you breed relatives it isnt healthy!!! Im done because now Im starting to hate AKC and all that kinda breeders......

I agree with you in many ways. Purebread dogs are great for the job they were meant to do, but for the most part people are just hung up on papers, not the use the breed was designed for.
I am sick of seeing/hearing of mutts killed in shelters because nobody wanted them.
I am not in ANY way bashing those with pure dogs, just those idiots who promote byb! It is pretty sick that anybody can get papered dogs and breed immorally (inbreeding, too young, too old). just because a dog has papers does not make it a great dog.

I don't think hatefullness will help solve the problem, but education of the public.

I am the worst kind of mutt:

Irish
portuguese
german
cherokee
english! don't think I could be papered! lol

I agree with you. I am looking at which breed to get, but I will probably just go and get a mix of that breed, or a mutt. Mutts are good dogs to, but they are not ALWAYS healthier. MOst of the time, but not always.

Mutts are not healther. Second people like to know who there dog came from because then they now about health problems that the dog could have and more. Plus mutts can "do" any dog on the street. So you could have a half german shepherd, labordor, poodle, and shar pei. people like to know if they have a pure breed or not. Because if you are paying $500 for a pure breed and you find out it is not i would be a littel mad.

Fostermommy....I LOVE YOU! SMOOCHES TO YOU FROM ALL US MUTTS!
LOL This is going to sound mean but my mom is a purebred and she is uhh kind of dingy LMAO Anyway, I have 4 mutts. All 4 from breeders although my last I inherited.
I STRONGLY agree they are healthier and I must be plain white trash cuz I don't want me no dog with a fancy name LOL
I'm sure you'd agree... they are family members not a possession I flaunt and throw in peoples faces. Although since they are all well mannered, properly trained, well socialized and extremely healthy....people can't help but envy me & my mutt brood!
I don't think everyone should have my views but I think people should respect others and NOT EVER PUT THEM DOWN for being different then thier own.
Get a towel fostermommmy cuz my babies are all drooling to come give you a great big sloppy puppy kiss!

Some people want a purebreed becausae they have a purpose for the dog in mind and yes certin breeds are beter at certin things than other breeds. I agree with you in the case of people who buy purebreed just to say they have a such-and-such but the dog is not being used for its purpose.

I agree and disagree on different points on your post.

With a purebred, you know what you're getting, for certain. You can be sure of the size, the coat type, the build and the instincts that it will posess.

The blood line is important because an unproved, poorly bred dog is likely to be unhealthy and untrainable.... and the people that those dogs are being created by are who you want to avoid... At the same time, if you don't have a specific reason for a proven blood line, [showing, breeding, other competition] then the thought is rather pointless.

On the other hand- if you want to rescue a dog, just rescue a dog.

But mutts are not healthier, that's a myth- and I don't like the AKC either... They know how to ruin a perfectly good dog sport.

But over all, purebreds are for me. And if I am going to pay money to someone for a dog, I want to know that it will be a good one- no backyard breeders.
