Question Best food by Brand for a large dogs, vote!

I fed my 10 weeks Rhodesian ridgeback puppy with Purina

"Puppy chow "

But after I read a few articles , I want to switch to

Eukanuba.

What do you think?

There are much better brands than Eukanuba and Purina.

There is controversy with Iams company about animal cruelty (and Iams and Eukanuba are the same)

I'd look into other diets. I've heard good things about Nutro.

I personally use AvoDerm. It's a premium/all natural/organic brand.

Nutro you can get at PetsMart.

I get my Avo at Vitamin Cottage, Health Stores, or a specialty pet supply store.

You can get Eagle Pack and Natural Balance at PetCo... both really good brands.

Also, you need to be careful what types of food you feed to a large breed puppy. High levels of protein and calcium can be detrimental to their growth, causing them to grow too quickly.

If the feed doesn't have a LB puppy formula, DO NOT feed the regular puppy formula. Some of the adult feeds are good for LB puppies as well, usually having the same ingredients without the higher price.

My dobe puppy is getting Nutro Ultra Adult, as we don't have a PetCo in my area. I would prefer to be feeding him either Eagle Pack LB/GB Puppy or Eagle Pack Natural.

Thank you!

We do have Petco, PetsMart, PetsPlus close, where I leave.
I'll go to those stores, read the labels and choose one of the
brand you named. I'll do my research on Internet too.

I feed to a few Bil Jac Frozen. I use Flint River Ranch, Fish n Chips flavor they love. I feed Chicken Soup made by the Diamond Company, it is a fairly decent food. Now, I have an article not to feed RAW due to the new Virus strain with no innoculation for hitting dogs in the U.S. In such a small town here I have to order via the net the top brands such as Innova, Solid Gold, Flint River. With shipping that really gets expensive with 7 adult Shepherds now litters of puppies. Well, one litter but Sally is going to start any day or hour, she cannot drag much longer and I do mean drag, she is full of milk, a great milk producer, which Girle is not. That is why I want to start her pups on solid soon, they sure smell it when I feed her in the whelp box, they go crazy trying to find where the food is. They should not be hard to wean onto solids.

I use Nutro. The Petsmart employee recommended it. Cute pup by the way!

Yes, other good brands are Solid Gold, Wellness, Innova (don't feed the EVO to a LB puppy, though), and Canidae.

Also, a food with a variety of protein sources is best for growing puppies. So you want to stay away from the feeds that only use one type of meat. For example, the Nutro Ultra that I feed uses 3 meat sources.

Also, have you looked into a raw diet?

When I had my collie & my foster collie, we used Purina Puppy Chow.
No with Joe it was recommended to try Nutro Natural Recipe for large breed puppies.
I LOVE it. He is healthy, happy, shiney and HUGE. No joint problems, no stiffness.
And he LOVES it! I'd highly recommend it.
I personally will NEVER buy Purina again- or IAMS or Ukenuba.
Also he had been fed Science Diet by the previous owner and he had loose, stinky stools. He wasn't gaining weight n it either, seemed too thin!
Joe says NUTRO
