Exclamation swallowed chicken bones!

My jack russel , Emma, just swallowed a chicken wing entirely! i dunno what i should do or if i should even worry.

i was trying to let her lick the bone, which she normally does, but instead she grabbed on to it. i tried getting it out but she wouldnt let go, so i let go because i figured shed put it down on the ground because i wasnt " fighting" for it anymore...

instead she swallowed it! after much panicking i realize she didnt choke, but is she going to be okay? i had a previous incident like this were she swallowed a sock in the middle of the night and had to be taken to the vet the next morning

what should i do?

well, I know that the bones of fowl are a problem because of splintering. This was whole right?? Watch her poopies really closely for signs of the bone or other problems!!

Just keep a close eye make sure she is drinking water and swallowing it ok. Chicken bones is the worse of all, never let a dog near a cooked chicken bone or pork chop or any cooked bone. RAW is the way to go , but feel if she made it down and is maybe eating some yugurt or cottage cheese ok then her pathway is clear, hope no splinters occured, keep an eye for this in next few days if she coughs or gags alot, get to a vet she has a splinter from the bones.. I wish you the best of good luck.......

Canned spinach will also help get any splinters out. Spinach just wraps around the foreign body and helps it move smoothly through the intestinal tract

One of my dogs ate a whole cooked chicken she stole form the counter. I went into a bit of panic about and called my vet. He told me not to worry she would digest it. I watched her for several days just incase something happened. She was fine. I would just keep an eye on her, it's not the best thing for them to have, but chances are she will be fine.

Was it cooked ? If it was NOT cooked then don't worry. I feed RAW all the time and chicken wings are on our dogs menu's.

If it is cooked then you may have an issue but if she swallowed it whole I would not panick. It is more of a problem when they chew it adn it splinters. If it is not chewed it will not splinter.

Raw bones are easliy digested, they are soft. Once a bone is cooked it changes it's molecule structure drying it out and causing it to be come brittle.

Never feed cooked bones even if you buy them at a pet store.

any bone that splinters can cause a hole in the intestines and kill your dog if not caught in time. I know, it happened to me. Keep a close eye on her eating and drinking habbits, any difference I would call the vet and let him know what happened.
