my mom's dog is too fat!!!!!

Hi guys, My mom has a Mini Dashcund she is probably about 12 lbs now she is only 18 months old I am so worried that she is gonna get sick.
My mom isn't the one giving her the extra food it is my Dad and he is so stubborn and doesn't listen. She should be about 10 lbs or less. What are some the the health risks if he don't stop giving her so much food? Maybe I can scare him to stop over feeding her. Thanks in advance.

Dachsunds are prone to obesity, which leads to back problems, leading to immobility... It just isn't good.

What food is she eating now?

Sounds

Sounds like my husband. He keeps feeding Ginger. He won't quit. The dog is old and not active (at least until she gets her new sister).

Iams isnt exactly the best food to be on for starters. Also...are you feeding the dog in meals or free feeding all the time? How much excersise does the dog get?

my hound chloe gains weight like it's nothing she can be fit one day and the next be over weight....i havent changed her diet since she doset eat much anyways, but i do a lot more with her she goes on at LEAST 2 long walks a day and we take her to the dog park to run...i know not every one has a dog park so i would highly recommend lots and lots of daily excersise. i had chloe on iams when she was a puppy she was chubby untill i took her off of it so i really would switch foods.
