Smile Lhasa apso

Hi, I was wondering if there are any lhasa owners here, I have an almost 4 month old female named Abby and I would like to ask you some questions about your dogs. I'm having a couple of problems with her ( potty training and nipping)
I'm looking for a little help.
Thank you ~

Here is where you can see a pic of Abby

I don't have a Lhasa, but I urge you to describe all of your problems to all of us. Lots of issues you may encounter are simply puppy things and are not breed specific. There are a lot of good dog handlers here who can help you even if they own a different breed.

I have a Lhasa, and I will say this, I see MANY pet store lhasas that bite and nip very hard! It takes time and lots of firm obedience training to outgrow this.

I have a lhasa mix and had some serious training issues with her as a pup. She was very nippy and was constantly challenging my alpha-ness. She chewed everything in sight and seemed to "go" in the house out of spite. Once she pooped in the hood of a sweatshirt I had in my laundry and then pushed the hood over so it wouldn't be seen. I looked for that stupid poo for hours! It took a lot of patience and training but now she's the best behaved of my four, which probably isn't saying much lol.

I had a lhasa growing up and he was a very trainable dog who was very well behaved. I am also in a few months getting a show lhasa. I dont think your problem is with the breed, like Moo said

" but I urge you to describe all of your problems to all of us. Lots of issues you may encounter are simply puppy things and are not breed specific. "

Please stick around and keep us informed on how she is doing. And any pics would be greatly appreciated.

My toys weren't hard to train and didn't have the nipping issues. None of mine have Lhasa in them tho. I heard toy breeds are hard to house train and can be stubbourn.
We had a llasa.tzu cross up the street who was VICIOUS. He attacked my neighbors Schnauzie-it took him, his wife, myself and th eother owner to get him off Max the schnauzer. He sadly was put down about 7 months ago. The owners didn't take the time to train him tho. I am sure you are dedicated and therefore it will work out. I wish I had advise. Have you tried paper training? All 3 of my toys are papertrained.

My Lhasa is 9 months old

Hi,
In March I got a Lhasa Apso pup. His name is Gizmo. I used a puppy pamper (the ones that go on the floor not on the dog) so that if he had to go and I did not make it outside with him, he knew it was ok to use the pamper. I limited his intake of water so that I could take him out every hour and he got the hang of going "outside". He is also crate trained which I believed helped.
I am still having trouble with nipping. I'm reading in books that this is normal behavior for dogs. What I do is if he nips me, I ignore him for a few minutes (leave the room if I can). When I come back into the room, he stops until next time. I think eventually he will learn its' not cool to nip at all. Hope this helps.
