Poor Joi

Well everyone here's my bad news... My foster/adopted now Shih Tzu is having a cancerous growth in her eyelid removed today. She also has chronic ear infections. Don't know how long she has but I have to do my best to give her quality of life because her former owner is waiting to see her. She is 87 yrs old and this little dog is her everyday motivation to keep on. She's been ill so much that I haven't been able to take Joi to see her. Now my old friend is doing better and I have to tell her that her little Joi has cancer. Its going to be so hard.... It has been very difficult having Joi live here, she was used to sitting in a lap for years and then her life changed overnight. She has many other issues that have made life difficult, but we all adjusted because I couldn't let my friends family kill her, it would have killed my dear old friend. She's like a grandmother to me. Well wish me luck....there's going to be big tears soon

Is this really something you need to tell her right now? Even if it is malignant, they might be able to do something about it. If they can't, they should be able to tell you if it's slow growing, etc. This could be very upsetting to an 87 year old. I wouldn't tell her before you had to.

I am sorry to hear that, but i wouldn't tell your friend the bad news. It won't help anything and just make her stressed and sad. I hope that Joi is ok and that everything works out ok.

Joi is home

Well the little white "tuff girl" made it thru. Anesthesia was a worry, she's 12 yrs old. My friend knew Joi had a growth but not what kind. Since my vet thinks she got it all ,the prognosis isn't too bad. I'm not telling my "grandma" the whole story unless Joi passes before her. I'm so glad she made it through surgery because my friend really needs to see her before anything happens, it's been a long time since. You are all right, there's no need to tell her now, it would definitely upset her greatly. Thanks for your advice and well wishes. By the way, my Vet. is also my best friend... I'm the luckiest pet owner I know ... she's the best!!!!!!

You are such a dear person to take in a older dog for a friend. I have been in yourplace when I took in an 11 yr old Pom from a lady who's husband died. She didn't want to give her away, but she couldn't keep her due to her biting the Grandkids. Friska had various cancerous growths on her legs and body. The vet advised me to keep an eye on the and keep her weight down. When she would put on weight her cancerous growths would grow. Needless to say she lived to be 20 yrs old.

we are all here for you to lean on if you need us. but remeber don't be sad when she goes, she will be in Gods loving arms. When i had to put animals down i would always say this to them eith er singing it or saying it.
Day is done little one, close your eyes now sweet dreamer, every star is a light , watching over you tonight.
