Okay, so there's not really any chocolate dog food (that I know of), but it's what I thought of when I keep finding out stuff like Purina is part of Hersey and Banfield is part of M&M/Mars. Isn't that weird? These huge companies start getting into such deverse marketfields. I just can't see taking my pet to a vet clinic that is owned by one of the largest candy companies in the world. Not that it really lessens the quality of work they do, it just seems wrong.
I visited the local Purina plant for one of my classes the other day. It's kinda like working at a restaurant and finding how they really make the food to the point where you don't want to eat there anymore. The Purina plant was extremely clean, well run, and they are very picky about the ingredients they use, but just learning what goes into the process of making any kibble changes the way I look at it. Even though it's a pretty obvious process if you think about it. How they combine all the ingredients into a sort of paste, then run it through shape cutters, then dry it and package it.
But then again, I also learn about the process that beef goes through before it is packaged for me to eat, and that's not a lot better.
Okay, that's my random post for now. We have a four day weekend so watch out for more random posts in the next few days.
