I dont see why just a normal dog brush wouldnt work for your Bichon Frise/Shitz tzu pooch. Just keep her brushed so that she doesnt get matted fur. And an occasional bath, nail trimmings....i think thats just about it as for grooming/maintance

I have a Bichon Frise and I use a slicker brush and metal comb on her.
Every day she gets brushed for about 30-60 minutes and I wash her eyes to prevent tearstains. Every few weeks she has a bath, I use a gentle shampoo such as oatmeal or tea tree. Then every 6 weeks she goes to a groomer who gives her a bath, hair cut, trims her nails etc.
That's pretty much all I have to do with her.

I agree with Lillys owner, I have Newfoundlands and that's a lot of curl! I use a slicker brush and sometimes a matt comb

I groom my entire dog with solely a metal "poodle comb".

He's not curly though, but I assume since it is called a "poodle comb..."

A poodle comb or a short tined steel brush (without the little balls on the ends of the tines) will do the trick for you, but you will have to brush daily to keep any tangles from his curly hair. I imagine that about 15 minutes a day should keep him tangle free and pretty. (imagine what you would look like if you didn't brush/comb your hair every day?????)

i agree with Moo, i have a tea cup poodle, and his hair is naturally curly. I use mainly a metal comb. I use a stickler brush to fluff. but the comb is a must have, takes a little longer to use, but works like a charm.

This is what a slicker brush looks like:

They come in lots of different sizes etc and are great for brushing dogs, including curly dogs. Your petstore should have quite a few available and they'll be able to help you chose the right one for your dog!

Also not sure if you know this already but when brushing a Bichon (and I guess it would be the same for a Bichon cross) you brush in the opposite direction than you normally would. Starting from the tail up to the neck and head. Hope I explained that right lol!
