Short coats for showing
Someone mentioned that they apply a shine to their dogs who have short coats.
Does anyone else use this. Are they color specific? Do they make dirt stick more to the coat? Just curious. |

There are many tricks to showing dogs and horses. We used Show Sheen, applied with a spray then wipe made them gleem. Brought out the depth in color also. Many tricks like on white sprinkle baby powder for if one gets caught doing any dying or coloring your done, at least in my show days.
Toe nails can be deepened with rubbing an onion on them to blacken them deeper. rub it in and it stays. Now, I do not know what they use these days but what I did legally. In tails, brows, u can use hair products for shine, spray to keep in place also. Many tricks done, but must be legal. Mostly alot of grooming and combing, braiding, twisting, tying, etc. |

If you want a little shine.Show people use Listerine and water in a spray bottle litely spray them and away you go.
I show in UKC alot and you can not put anything on the coat to make it shiny. It also makes the coat slik and can be felt when going over the dog. You can be excused for this. Donna |

I use show sheen on mine, makes them look GREAT!! I just used some yesterday on the 3 amigos.
There are several different products out there. I dont think it makes the dirt stick anymore then usual. |

I was told to rub over a dry clean coat with a shammy leather cloth, its supposed to make the oils come to the surface of the coat and as a result the coat gleames naturally.

I use Magic Touch by Crown Royal. It helps repel dust from the coat and make the coat shine. Ring 5 and many other shampoo companies make color shampoo, like Black out, Sno White and one for Red coats but I cant remember the name of it. IT IS NOT DYE!!!! It just brings out the color to be more rich. In the US yeah you can get kicked out of the ring if you dye or chalk your dog, but with collies... if you don't do it you won't win. Listerine works well, I have used it. *The Stuff* (found at any show vender, or in certain catalogs) works well too with a short hair dog. There are many different products that can be used you just have to try some and figure out what one is the best for your dog.

For my horse, I have a conditioner that's called Cowboy Magic Conditioner & Dentangler. It takes only a teeny bit to do the whole mane, and days later is still shiny with less dirt than usual.
