*******Warning long and rambling post
******* I haven’t really been happy with Lilly’s diet for a while now and I feel guilty about giving her kibble etc (not to mention she doesn’t like it at all) and since she gave us all a scare with the Metaldehyde Toxicity I’ve been even more concerned about her health. I want to make sure that she stays healthy for a very long time and I’m looking into ways to help with that. So I’ve been talking to lots of people (breeders, vets etc) who have also told me how great the RAW diet is and it’s something I’m really beginning to consider. I was wondering if you could tell me if it’s something you’d recommend for a Bichon Frise? Any advice or info would be great! Of course it would mean that I’d have to get over my phobia of feeding small dogs bones lol, but I think most of the horror stories I’ve heard are about cooked bones anyway! Plus I wouldn’t leave Lilly unattended like a lot of the people who have lost a dog from obstructions etc have. Also I’ve heard so many stories of food poisoning occurring but I’m guessing they can’t be right seeing there are so many dogs that are doing really well on a RAW diet. I’m getting a few books off my vet on the subject so I’ll definitely research the diet thoroughly first. I must admit I have been very uncomfortable about feeding bones etc in the past because of the amount of negative comments I’ve heard, but now that I’m looking into it I’m seeing how many people have had success with it and I'm not feeling as worried! So if anybody could help me I’d much appreciate it and also if you don’t think RAW diet is suitable for a Bichon does anyone have any other recommendations instead? Thanks!! Why I don't feed raw meat:
1. 400 years of cotons in history eating vegetable based diet. 2. Stains my white dog. 3. Long beard hair carries bacteria around my house. |

So you don't think it would be a good idea for a Bichon??

I don't think it's a good idea for a Coton... Nor do I think it good for my hopes of a clean dog and house. LOL.
As closely as they're related, I can't really speak for Bichon digestion.
