over bites

Hi my friend has just emailed me she has a 7 month old pup brought from a breeder, it has been discovered that she has a bad over bite, now my friend would of worked the pup and possibly bred it at a later date, as she all ready has several older dogs now retired, she desperately needs a new working dog, so she has not got the room to keep this pup just as a pet as well, so she is in a dilemma should she return the dog to the breeder, if they will take it back or find a pet home for it, what do you guys think?

Bites can change.I have had puppies with bad bites turn correct and good bites go bad.
If she does not want to take the chance the bite will not correct then(if the contract states return the dog)if not pet him out,If she pets him out tell her not to go back and look at the dog down the road.(she might kick her self in the but.)

Im very disappointed to off found out the dam has had a previous litter with over bites in it as well, my friend has only had the pup3 weeks, her contract does state to contact the breeder and they will re-home the pup, unfortunately this is not the case they do not want to know, the vet has stated it is a very serious over bite!

Then she must do what is best for the puppy. If she will never be happy with the way his bite is then she should place him and let him just be a happy pet.
The breeder should have told her she has had this problem before.

Thanks for the advice rutylr, she is going to finish the pups basic training and have her spayed as soon as the pup has her first season, hoping this will help find the best home possible, she is in touch with a lady who may want her for agility and as a pet,

I'd get a new vet, it is not normal to wait until first season. As for the over bite, if it is that serious I'd bring the dog back to the breeder. If that doesn't work I'd bring the breeder to court with all the papers from the vet.

No its not the norm, after the first season the mammory glands develop and she has a chance of getting mammory cancer later in life, its best to do it before

Not to mention waiting for the first heat cycle to start and/or finish makes the spay more difficult.

The organs get very swollen and vascular (meaning the veins are huge and there is a lot of blood) which then makes for a tricky and bloody mess.
