Large Breed Puppy food
For how long should I keep my 3-month-old Rhodesian ridgeback puppy on Puppies Large Breed food diet?
What ever I read – it saying for about a year.Is it right? This particular kind of dogs is growing very fast. |

Ask your vets advice.
According to my vet - your dog is way too young to be on adult food. The best food for him right now is large breed puppy food which of course is specifically designed for larger breeds. It really helps them not grow too fast. My lab is doing fantastic on it. She is not growing too fast - she is fit, great muscle tone and a wonderful coat and teeth. Vet says correct weight too. I will probably continue her on LB puppy food until she is about 18 months. |

stick to the large breed puppy for one year then change to large breed adult. I have many Newfounlands and found that works best. Their overall joints do better and they are more active. Food makers are now realizing that every dog is different and thankfully they are starting on the right path with their food.

I got this off a Ridge back site.
We use Eukanuba Adult Maintenance (black bag) for our dogs, adults and puppies alike, and have had good results. We used to start puppies on Iams Puppy Chow, but in recent years there has been a move away from "hot" foods for puppies on the grounds that they cause too rapid growth, leading to bone problems. We now start puppies on Eukanuba Performance (pink bag) and then switch over at about 8 weeks to Eukanuba Adult Maintenance (black bag). We chose this because the dogs like it and because it is very well digested (less problems with flatulence and less debris in the backyard--two really practical reasons). In addition to the Eukanuba kibble, we add about two tablespoons of canned food (we use Pedigree) just to spice things up a bit. We continue to feed our adults twice daily (more or less at our breakfast and our dinner) throughout their lives. An adult Ridgeback who has finished growing will eat about 3.5-5 cups of Eukanuba daily, depending on activity level. Several dog food manufacturers have recently introduced "Large Breed Puppy Foods." However, if you compare the ingredient list on these new foods you will see that it is virtually identical to that for the Adult food. http://www.barkbytes.com/brelib/rhode2.htm Listen to people who have the breed not your Vet. Vets are not nutristionalist. They sell sicence diet and say it's a good food Donna |

i dont feed my Dane puppy, puppy food, hes been on adult food since the day we brought him home, theres hundreds of articles about how you shouldnt feed your large breed dog puppy food...but honestly id just do a quick net search on it, read a few of the articles and decide for yourself. i know a lot of large breed owners who dont feed puppy food but a lot who do feed it. so it can go either way

Vets know very little about what is on the markets, but only what they sell. At least keeping it on to date Large breed puppy it has less protein and fat than plain puppy brand. I get mine off at 5 months onto adult or Bil Jac very little fat per cent, but yet the dogs are toooo fat.
Watch for a rapid growth or fast gain and get off puppy brand get onto adult food. No human food, no treats but doggie biscuits or RAW beef soup bones for teeth and gums. |

I was always told to keep dogs on puppy food until 8-12 months. I took Sammy (a large breed dog) off around a year old.
