Grooming the Pug
What would you experts use to groom a pug? As some of you have read I am "test driving" an pug. I had him come home with me for the weekend and then his owners picked him up on sunday, for the week then I will take him again for the weekend, then decide if he and us will work together! Whew, sorry had to explain! Anyways, I cannot believe how much this dog sheds!!!!AAAAGHHHHHH from two shih-tzu's who shed minimal this is awful!!! I g avehe dog, Wicket a bath, and used a slicker brush on him, but the fur just wouldn't stop coming out. now from what I have read and understand they have a shorter fluffier coat underneath a longer smooth top coat. What is the best tool(s) to help groom this pup?
Thanks all for listening!!!!! |

The best tool for shed maintenece is a rubber brush. There are many sizes.shapes even rubber glove mitts. Try Pro dog supplies or a pet store, they're easy to find. You'll never rid all the shedding hair but daily brushing will diminish the amount shed in your home.

I dont know about pugs, but I have short haired dogs, i use a normal rubber glove to get rid of all those loose hairs, you need to do it outside because there will be loads, i just rub the fur the wrong way then smooth down and the hairs cling to the glove

Is this the same dog you said had dry skin? My pugs are black and not as thick coated as fawns, I have some shedding but never bad unless blowing coat from childbirth. Rubber gloves work great and are easy to use,LOL. I really question the bad shed, dry skin connection, better diet and a vet visit sound neccesary. Congrats on the new baby and remember he is not going to be anything like a Shihtzu and I can say that I have both, total opposites. But no less adorable. oh,just thought of this try vacuuming him, one dog likes it some hate it.

Thanks Barnjess! Micki- I am also thingking that there is a connection between the dry skin and shedding, his owners have him on science-diet, and have been informed that it is a low quality food, not to mention it's also low cal. I will be switching him to nutro. I will def try the rubber gloves! thanks guys.

Have you tried a supplement to help reduce shedding? I know my vet carries some, and i use if on my Dane, who shedds alot also. It seems tohelp specially when the weather changes. I also bathe him once a month to help with the furr. But the supplemtn works pretty well for me =)
