Cleaning a dog that cant have baths?

Ok so I have a shiba inu and they are not allowed to have a bath but once a year. Well he just got his yearly bath last month. What can I do to help with that "dog smell"? I havent had him but a couple of months so I am not sure what you use on a dog like this ?

Thanks
Traci

You can take a wash cloth and clean the stinky areas (Mouth, bum, paws and tummy).

Have the cloth damp with water with a tablespoon of baking soda in it.

Why do they say you should only bath once a year? A stinky inside dog is not acceptable in my book.

A shiba has a waterproof coating and you are not suppose to bath them but once a year. At least that is what the vet and groomers told me and what i read on the net.

that's anew one to me, maybe a baby powder(cornstarch) bath. Lightly rub in powder then brush out.

There is one site that says he bathed his before every show. Obviously if you are keeping the dog outside, the waterproofing is necessary.

Mouth & bum can still be cleaned. BTW - there is a dry shampoo you spray on and brush out. That might still get rid of those oils. There are a variety of colognes available.

How often your dog should be bathed should be used very loosely.

It really should tailor to the individual needs of you and your dog. If he needs a bath, give him a bath.

Dax and Moo are correct, Lifesyle and habitat are the indicators of hygeine. Also there are many different shampoos made specifically not to strip coats of natural oils. There are other alternatives to a bath as mentioned. Try Pro Dog Supplies or other grooming product suppliers, you will see that there are many choices.

I agree with the others. You should still be able to wash the dirty areas with a cloth or baby wipe though. And then you could use a waterless shampoo if that's allowed.
For the smell are you allowed to use dog perfume? That might help.

I had a Shiba and when he smelled bad, he got a bath. I used a very gentle oatmeal shampoo and a good conditioner and all was fine.

I use wet wipes for my lot when they git a bit dirty, but as long as you use a gental shaqmpoo then you can beth your dog more often, just dont go mad
