Shampoo

Can anybody recommend a good shampoo for a lab? I have this shampoo that I use and it's great, it doesn't Poppy's feathering fluffy like the other shampoo I used to use and it smells just like baby shampoo BUT hubby doesn't like the smell.

My friend who breeds and shows labs says it's not necessary for labs to be bathed and they are better off if they are not bathed but that simply isn't an option for me - lol. Poppy likes to roll and because she is a submisssive dog she will quite often end up on the mucky floor when she meets other dogs! So a regular bath is essential.

Any recommendations - oh and it has to be available in the UK!

I used an oatmeal based shampoo on my Labs. I found it to be more gentle on their coats. I also had to bath them more often even though it wasn't recommended.
Good luck finding one!

Thanks for the link Barnjess, I'd forgotten about Johnson's shampoos. An oatmeal based shampoo sounds good too Brooke - I'm glad I'm not the only one who gives Poppy a bath "more often than the recommended"!

I like what my dogs use ( well 2 of them) they have dry skin, so i use a shampoo called Relif, it has an oatmeal base to it, and is gentle, but smells good, and won't dry the skin out. But, you can only get it through your vet.

Heres what I use.
My dogs have short coats and I don't want their skin to dry out as I bathe them often when showing.I have used this for over 10 years now and have never had a problem. The product is all natural and adds oil to their coat.(don't use this on a collie)
Murphys Oil soap. Now you must use Murphys and not the cheep brand, and not the spay kind.It does not soap up alot, but the dogs are clean and they shine.I have had people at shows ask how I get them so shiny and no one believes me.
Lots of people I know are now using it.

Hey friends, shampoo less if best only when impossible for smell. I even wipe down my bottle fed pups with just a wet wash cloth for they poop all over the place and on each other. Peeee UUUuuuuuuuuuuu.

I never ever shampooed my Shepherds only hose them down from dirt under the belly and legs in bad weather then towel dry they have gorgeous coats, not to braggggggggg ha ha.
But, if u must shampoo yes use the Oatmeal base shampoo and conditioner to each the skin to make it soft and pliable and repleanish the oils u loose everytime u do shampoo.
I think some of you get addicted to washing your pets needlessly, wipe them down then towel dry and keep that shinny coat and healthy coat and skin indeed.. Everytime u shampoo with anything you strip the skin and coat of natural oils they work hard to make, feed a few sardines packed in oils weekly if your a shampoo nutty, ha ha.

Shep, I'm not a shampoo nutty - lol - but sometimes needs must (like when Poppy rolls in fox poop - lol).

Rutylr I'll have to have a look for that soap, not sure if you can get it in the UK.

I have just looked it up and was going to ask you if I'd found the right product - lol... I expected it to be a bar of soap! I'll have a look for it next time I go shopping.

I've also just read on a Pet Rescue site that you should use baby shampoo to bath dogs... I know that Moo uses that for Kirby - I wonder if that will make Poppy fluffy?
