odd behaviour...help..
Anybody that has this experience,or knows what it could be please help me,thanks. Ok,when I barley touch the middle of his back his whole skin will crawl up like a roller coaster, and he leans slightly left. I also discovered if a barely touch his hind quarters(either side) his skin crawls and does the same thing.I had him for 12 years, hes always in perfect health. I always could pet his back, and touch him anywhere before without this happening. He doesn't whine or whimper when touched, although I dont think he's the whine and whimpering type. This is very discouraging to me,It's like I cant even touch him anywhere exept his head. Anybody have info? I will take him to the vet soon, because he is my best pal. .....Also I know some dogs have "tickle spots" but he never did,so its not that.

hmm... he doesn't wimper huh? Does he have any trouble walking? Sometimes they can slip a disk in their back, which can cause their skin to crawl, but most often than not they will have trouble walking and or it will be tender to the touch. It is possible that he might have jumped off something to high and injured or strained his back... good luck =) tell us what happeneds ..

He has no problem walking. He is not a jumper,he hasn't fell to my knowledge.Im pretty much with him 24/7. If it is a slipped disk, can that be repaired, being that he is almost 13?

yes it can, however mos vets will reccomend that they be craed or in an area that they don't have to move around alot, and of course no stairs or anything high, and no jumping ( if thats a problem), also, they will give a medication sometimes Medicam, or an anti inflamitory ( Rymadyl or Deremaxx), to help any area that may be inflamed.

HI Bestpal,
My Golden Retriever does the same thing. He is six now and has never done that before. I asked the vet about it and he said it is just like a human reflex reaction when the doc hits us in the knee with the little hammer and our foot flies in the air! He said they don't know why it all of a sudden just starts happening, could be with age, just like the ugly brown spots we get on our hands when we get older! He assured me it was nothing to worry about, but if you are concerned bring him to the vet. |

Could an x-ray at least rule out the possibility of a slipped disk?

I would think so.

Mine does that when her skin gets dry.

nods, x-ray will definatly rule that out, and also sometimes the doctor can " feel" for areas like that.
