Hey I was just wondering, when you look in the paper for breeders and poeple list the puppies they have for sale, why is it the females always run more expensive, i.e. males $300, females $350 thanks

I still can't figure that one out.
All my puppies sell for 500.00 or less pet or show. Male or female Donna |

It might be that the females can reproduce litters so some byb see them as potential competition.
Rescues have different prices for age. I could see them charging more for fixed females as the spay costs more than a neuter. |

but you could stud out a dog and make more
So it still does not make sence to me |

actually studing your dog out is tricky, the owner of the female may reject him for a number of reasons. The female that produces the puppies is vital. If a dog had 10 puppies at 900.00 a shot, the owner tends to make a lot of money where as a stud dog may only be used once or twice a year. My females were always more expensive even though I put in a no breeding clause, and a limited registration with the AKC.

Some people have said females are nicer tempered than males, I don't see alot of difference in puppies, just the normal alpha pup thing and that really seems to run more to female pups in my experience. I also charge more for females as they are more sought after in pugs again in my experience, maybe not everywhere.

IMO, it is because that a female, through the course of her life can produce more income for the owner with uncomplicated pregnancies than a intact male can. Example, you have a quality female, breed her to an awesome stud for say $1000 and she has 8 puppies (natural birth, no complications) and sell all 8 pups fo $1000. The stud owner just made a $1000 and the bitch'w owner may have just profited about $5000. If you figure $3000 (on the very high end for an easy pregnancy) for extra food and supplements for the bitch; dews, vaccinations, vet check for the pups as well as extra food, etc. someone that owns a bitch has the chance of making a larger profit off a female than a male. But that does not contribute to any of the unknown factors. But, IMO, that is why females are more expensive than males.
But if you are buying from a quality breeder that has a few pet quality pups, well the price for male and female should be the same being that I feel all pet quality pups should require a spay/neuter contract. |

Female Coton de Tulear puppies are much more than male Coton de Tulear puppies... based on the fact that females occur less frequently. In Kirby's litter of 7, all 7 were male.
As for other wise, it's all a matter of the BYB... |

I think it is because girls are just smarter.

Your right girls are harder to come by in some breeds and just in some lines. Even in certain colors, but again pet quality pups are in the majority in a litter. My waiting list are always heavier on the female side. Alot of people don't want males they lift their legs, not insurmountable but to some they just don't want to bother. I always believe spay and neuter if not showing, just makes it easier for everyone the pet and owner.
