Unhappy Possible bad hips?

I'm slightly concered about Rudy. In the mornings when he first stands up, it seems like he has some troubles, along with the first few steps. I don't know if this is because he likes to sleep curled in a ball at night, his age (he's 7), his breeds (cocker spaniel x black lab), or if he might have the on set of some hip problem. Besides this, he seems to be in pretty good health, and once he's been up for a little while he seems fine. So I'm not sure what's going on.
Could the change in season be affecting him? or possibly a more severe problem?

Is he slightly overweight? There might be the start of arthritis. Your vet can tell you for sure and start pain management.

Hi, I doubt it is Hip Displ. It sounds like with his age and the symptoms. He may just have a touch of arthritus. Why don't you try him on Glucosamine. I swear by it. I was in hospital 4 yrs ago n the nurse n I were talking about my kids. {That is a suject I focus on when My doc. says just relax and think of something good} Well of course I am thinking of my 4 legged kids. ANYWAY, Nurse n I were talking about k9 arthritus and she told me about GLUC. She had a chiwawa [I know thtas not spelled right] and gave her 18yr old puppy 500mg daily. I have large dogs an reading about this Gluc. I knew I could give my kids 1000mg daily. You can buy this at walmart in the pharmacy dept. It is a human pill. It's mainly for joint mobility! You should try it. I saw a difference in my kids just after a week! It's like us taking an aleve or tylenol arthritus before we go to bed.I have never had a bad reaction from any of my kids. Good luck. Please let me know how you are making out! Kimberly

Dax- Rudy seems to be at a pretty good weight, he has a tucked up tummy, and when veiwed from the top, there are slight indents behind his ribs and before his hips. According to the dog food bag (lol), he's at an ideal weight. He's fairly well muscled too.

Kimberly- Is the Glucosamine healthy for dogs? (I don't know much about human pills being used on dogs and what not)

I'll be getting paid soon, so hopefully I'll be able to set up an apointment, after all, it would be nice to know what the vets think of his weight and overall general health (last time he was there he was chubby.. lol), and then I can ask about the possibility of arthritis too.

Thanks.

There are supplements out there for dogs with arthritis.

Glucosamine is offered in a pet friendly product (and dose).

Here's a product at Dr's Foster and Smith

You can check out their other joint supplements.

Yes Glucosamine is ok for dogs. I've been using it for a few years now. At first my vet. sold me Glycloflex. After using 1 n3 it wasn't working to well. The nurse at hospital told me about GLUC. and it worked better. I told my vet the route I was going and she said fine!! I by bottles of 240 pills for $11.00 compared to the other which is alot more expensive! let us know the outcome!!! Kimberly
