soft stool

With our new puppy 10 week old blk lab/germ shep mix I noticed that for the last 24hrs we have had her she had soft stool and lots of it.. is this normal for pup or should it be normal stiff turds??

she is eating Nutural Choice puppy lambmeal and rice formula... she scarfed the food down once we got her and eats quite well and since we have had her her stool has been soft (except for her first stool which was mediocre)

anywho something I should look for? maybe switch food or what? I am going to ask the last owner hopefully tonight if she had soft stool before I got her or not

any other suggestions would be welcomed..

btw I should mention she also ate my cats hard food, and yes her food is hard food to no wet food, and I guess the last owner was feeding the cheep stuff

How long have you had the dog? Does it have any vaccinations?

I would NOT switch foods.. this will only irritate the problem, not fix it.

The cat food may have caused this, any variety in a puppy's diet is going to potentially cause GI upset.

Try fasting for a meal.. that way the pup can empty whatever is bothering her. If the diarrhea persists, go to the vets office. Could be a number of things.. such as parasite (has the pup been dewormed) this is a very common problem in puppies, or it could be parvovirus (in which case, the dog needs immediate attention), or it could be the cat food or some other type of different food the puppy got into.

Just the stress of moving to a new home can loosen up the stool. Keep feeding the dog food and maybe add some plain canned pumpkin as a mid day snack.

Make sure to give lots of water. Keep monitoring and it should start to firm up. If it gets worse, you may want to see your vet.

well I will keep her on the same stuff (wow its expensive), it is not diareaha, just soft stool.. not watery..

I will keep an eye on her, and see how she progresses in the next couple days.. I have a vet apt in 2 weeks from saturday, she is 10weeks old, and had her 8week shots, and I see no worms in her stool
