grooming schools?

does anyone have any info on dog grooming schools near modesto, california. (yes, that's where scott peterson lived) I am looking for a career path and want to do something with dogs, but am not sure what yet! I have looked all over the web and most schools are internet classes. I wouldn't think you can learn something like this over the web though? Any info from groomers would be welcomed, their experiences, schooling, pros and cons of grooming and anything else you can think of. thank you all very much

I am also considering doing this, and from what i have been told you need to ring up a few groomers and see if they take on traines?

Have you tried looking up California Professional Groomers Association? Don't know if there is a group in your state or not. Illinois used to have one but I haven't heard anything in about a year. There was also national one too, but not sure of the title. They might be able to direct you to a school(not on-line) How bout calling some local groomers and asking them where they were educated? We have schools in Illinois, mainly near Chicago. If you don't get any results on those options, I could call them for you, just let me know. Since you are on this forum, you already have the most important base of being a good groomer....the love of dogs! Grooming is usually misconcieved by most people though. It is physically demanding, patience is a MUST,you also need a creative mentality because everyone wants they're dog to be beautiful and that's not always easy to achieve. We are also looked upon suspiciously because of rumors that get started about mistreatment, secret sedation etc. So there is a lot going into this career than meets the eye.The pay is not the best at first and you also get all the dogs no one else wants to groom. Until you get established and build a good clientel, you can get frustrated and second guess your choice. Most groomers dream is to own they're own shop. That's where the reward is and trust me it's a good life! I have always known I wanted to do what I do since the age of about 12, but the opportunity didn't arise until I was in my latter 20's. The only way to learn how to groom is hands on, so don't fall for the internet trap. If you have any more questions I would be glad to answer.
