puppies and shedding

I was wondering if anyone knows how much puppies shed in comparison to their same breed adult? Can I assume that my dog as an adult will shed about the same as my 12 week old puppy? Will she shed her puppy coat and get 'adult hair'? She's a mix breed so I can't just research the breed for the answers. I thought someone here might be able to help.

There's really no way to know even a guess if you have no idea of the breed mix.

When Buzzie was a puppy, she never shed. Now that she is older, she sheds like crazy!!! And drives me crazy!!! I dont know if mixed breeds tend to shed, I think they would more, just my opinion...

To be truthful best I can be I seldom see the puppy coat slip off into adult coat. It gets looking like a bear, soft fuzzy hair, it seems to just slowly come off and by 4 to 6 months they are into a beautiful coat and guess I might not look on my clothes to see small baby hairs.

My adults are on Fresh Factor from springtimeinc.com/live that promotes a healthy skin, shiny coat and less shedding. So, I do not have only one time a year: Spring that I truly need to brush to rid of the winter coats. I Never have clumps of hair falling off and I let all my Shepherds inside and out. The females shed worse during heat cycles, they go into a drab dull coat, tells me when they are about due before I even look at the calendar.

So, to tell you how much a puppy sheds to an adult I cannot do that, all breeds are different and there is no such dog as a completely non shedder as my Airdales dropped hair just as we do. They are to be non shedders, of course they do not shed hair as normal shedders do, but they do drop some hair. And in grooming them hair comes into the tools also.

Thanks, guys. At least I now know more than I did. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I think Shep is on the money with the 4-6 months time frame. It happens gradually so I hardly noticed it with Ariel.

I found it to be more of a texture thing with Ariel. The adult fur feels coarser.

How about some pictures of the mixed pup?

Kota's hair got thicker and it wasn't as soft. The 4-6 months seems right for me too.

Well, We got Buck when he was about 5 months old and he only shed a little, and he doesn't shed too too much now, but it's enough of a difference to notice

We got Rusty when he was little and he didn't shed at all but he definitely does now. Depends on their coat
