Eye discharge update

You know I posted about Poppy's conjunctivitis not clearing up, well the vet says it's no longer conjunctivitis and thinks it's being caused by something else. She thinks it may be allergies. I had decided to start Poppy on some new food anyway and the vet says that the new food will be much better for her.

It contains no artificial additives, colours or preservatives. It contains brown rice and lamb and I top it off with a bit of something called Natures Menu which is a "ready made" frozen raw food. That has no additives either - it's simply chopped raw meat and veggies. (Please don't start telling me that I shouldn't be mixing raw with kibble!)

The good thing to come out of all of this is that I got some advice about her fussy eating too. So I cut back to one meal a day, between 5-7pm and if she doesn't eat it within 20 mins then it's taken back up. I don't free feed anymore. Hubby wasn't too pleased about this, he likes to give her titbits and likes her to have food down. I asked him if he wanted Poppy to suffer for the rest of her life? He doesn't but he doesn't want her to feel deprived either!

Well the first day she hardly touched her dinner, the second day she ate more and by the third day she was gobbling it up. I called him to let him know (he's working away) and he was happy about it! I've never, ever seen her eat dog food with so much gusto!

So I hope this continues and I hope it sorts her eyes out too

I hope Poppy starts feeling better.

Rudy also has a weepy eye. I had the vet look at the last time he was there for a check and shots and the vet said he doesn't see anything wrong. I suspect it could be the way his eye is shaped, it is almost as if he has his eyelashes going into his eye. I know that sounds weird.

We have also been treating his ear with ear drops and it seems to help his eye. The vet said there was no infection and no problem with his ear. So I don't know. I have had two vets look at him and the next time I need to get my vet out here for a teeth float on one of my horses I will have him look again at it.

Hope the new food works out for you and if you need any help with the raw just ask.

Good luck with the new feed. Poor Poppy, not much fun having a weaping eye.
