Question nail clipping?

how old does my puppy have to be to clip her nails? is there a certain age? or just when they get sharp?

You should start clipping them now to get her used to it - hopefully you can see where you need to clip to. I clipped Poppy's with ordinary human clippers for quite a while before she grew too big and my nail clippers wouldn't take her nails!

There isn't a certain age to start, simply the younger the better. I have to clip Poppy's every month.

Yep the breeder where I am getting my new pup from she clips the pups nails from about 4 weeks onwards. She trims them every 2 weeks, just takes a slight nip off the end and they are done.

You can start very early. I first did my pups around two weeks (with baby clippers) and that would be every fortnight or so after that.

Lilly has hers done every 4 or 5 weeks now.

What I have is a toe nail metal file both sides of it. I file off the tips on very young pups as they scratch the mommy badly, she will quit feeding if I do not take care of their nails. They are totally sharp as needles and can bring blood on her while drinking from her. So, Breeders should start on pups 3 weeks old. I would not try and cut them so young, I am not steady enough, too shakey. Filing is safer for me. I got my metal file that never wears down at the Dollar Store.

Clip them ASAP and do it weekly. I do it weekly and cut the tips off, that way they stay short. I do it when my 4 month old puppy is asleep, otherwise he wiggles too much

i agree , you should trim them about once a week or so, and just get your puppy used to the sound the nail clippers make. I have found that is what dogs hate the most.
