Lilly's in heat!

Lilly is in heat again! I forgot how stressful this is lol, there is an annoying little Maltese that keeps escaping and coming to the gate. It's howling outside right now! I would try and take it back to its owner but I can hardly move with my kidney infection and it bites really hard!
I know it's natural instinct but the owners could at least keep him under control. I rang them and they didn't even seem bothered.

Poor Lilly doesn't like her pants lol. I'm still trying to decide whether to get her spayed or not, I'm leaning more towards yes but it is a hard decision. If she does (which I'm pretty sure she will) it won't be for 3 months.

In the meantime we have a fun 3 weeks ahead of us lol.

Sheesh Brooke when it rains it pours, you and I should get together and talk about our bad luck lately.

I would get her spayed if you don't plan on showing or breeding. The heats are so much of a pain. Lilly will be a happier dog for it.

Hope your feeling better and Lilly too.

LOL we should!

Yes I really think I should get her spayed too but I've heard so many bad stories that it gets stressful.
I was told that once they have had litters their organs become extremely swollen and the risks of bleeds etc increases dramatically but I just have to get over that. I know she'd more than likely be fine!

I spayed my BC bitch when we done breeding - and she did fine - I wouldn;t worry to much about that end of things - it is amazing what they can do now and many of these horror stories come from "the old days".

Thanks, I know you are right! I definitely need to stop worrying about it, there are risks involved with everything and each litter she had was more dangerous than spaying. I just have to remind myself of that! lol

No, that's not true. Talk to your vet if you are worried about it.

Jenna was spayed at a year and half. She had had 2 heats before we got her as a rescue, no litters. I seriously considered keeping her intact for about a minute, then thought better of it. Yes, I have the breeding rights on her but after the abuse she suffered at the hands of her previous owner and all she had been through and I was not going to show her we got her spayed. She has been fine.

The only risk you face is possible incontience but that is rare. Bit+ches some times suffer that after spaying but talk to your vet about it. It is quite rare to have happen.

Thank you! That makes me a feel a lot better.
I'm a big baby when it comes to Lilly, I know I wouldn't think twice about advising other people in my position to spay their pet but it's different with her lol. I've let people scare me for long enough in regards to her health and I'm going to have to stop that!

AWWw Lilly, spaying is so much updated now that your pet is healthier and the weather is not too bad to keep it clean and dry. That is important in healing, Sally did fine and she and I had no time to think about it, the emergency saved her life, I saved her puppies and it all worked out so quickly.

People should keep their pets at home, that is so annoying. Males can smell that 3 mile away. It makes you beware of letting her out for a few seconds even on leash to pee with those little sneakers waiting. I would really not worry about getting her spayed if you really want to do it. Some vets do the lazer thing now in bigger cities than here.

It did not bother Sally one second, she has big clamps too as her teets were full and hanging. It would really be better for Lilly and less cancers also. Good luck and chase that stinker home or call the owners nicely and tell them to please keep him confined.

Yeah bladder incontinence is rare after spay. If that is your main concern, like already mentioned Brooke, Im sure your vet can assure there is little risk. But hey, keep in mind there is risk in any surgery. May not be serious but there always is a risk of something. Again, rare. Id assume you trust your vets every word and you have confidence that he can do this operation. If not, maybe its best to switch vets.

It feels much better after its over and done with I will tell you that. I didnt see much difference in Oscar's behaviour also. If any change, it was definitly for the better. He is now more focused and doesnt have green goo hanging off his penis. The risk of many cancers are also totally taken away. Im aware you know all of this...just trying to be re-assuring.

Thanks Shep and Ex!

LOL if I could stand up straight and it wasn't the middle of the night I would definitely chase the annoying little brat home. He's getting louder and louder, I can't stand it. But I hope nothing happens to him out there. I think his owners might be in for a not-so-nice phone call soon

I'm definitely going to talk to the vet about laser surgery, I'm lucky I do have a good one so I will discuss it all with him.

I know the health benefits will far outweigh the negatives and although incontinence doesn't sound pleasant we would handle it.

I do know most of that stuff but it is always reassuring to hear it again!
