New mom wimpering/whining? a problem?

My mini doxie that gave birth yesterday has started wimpering and whining. It doesn't seem to be a painful cry - but one she does when she wants something. I have adjusted the room temperature - thinking it might be too hot in the room. It was about 80 deg F and now running at 77 deg F. The room seems very warm to me. One of the 2 pups died today though - is there a chance that she could be wanting it? She is still caring just fine for the other pup - just whining a bit. Any ideas? Thanks!

I have no answers for you, but wanted to wish you the bet of luck!
Have you taken her for a quick vet check postpartum?

Poor Dog. I think she is missing her pups that past away. Why did they die? I am just wondering. I hope that dont happen to libbys pups after they are born. Best luck!!

well I had that also and it was too hot. It is to be 90 degrees when whelping u could cut it down some, but remember new puppies cannot produce any body heat for a good two weeks. They rely on the mothers and often it is not enough. If she is panting hard then its hot, if not I would not take it down lower than mid eighties.

She is most likely also wondering where the pups is. Although when one dies on a litter I remove it immediately and the female forgets quickly, but I have large litters for them to care for also. So, I would say she is missing the puppy.

Well, it was born weighing 4 oz, and the other pup was 8 oz. The vet said that it seemed as tho the bigger pup got most of the nutrition, and also - being that there were only 2 of them - they didn't have to struggle as much to move in the womb - so the smaller one wasn't very strong - not strong enough for life. The vet also thought that there may have been some sort of problem that may have been incompatible with life. Well, no way to know for sure what exactly was wrong. The pup nursed some from a bottle, but died within a day. It was hard on us, but I guess it's not all that uncommon. I would say to be prepared for it incase it does happen. I would also be ready to tube feed if the pup starts to go downhill quickly like mine did. Good luck with your litter!

I would agree I think. She is still continually looking for her pup it seems - being that there were only 2 and the one died a day later, she knows something is wrong. She even seemed to hide the other pup today. I'm not sure why she did this. I brought her downstairs to whelp, and the male is upstairs in their box. Now she seems to want to take the pup upstairs. I'm not exactly sure what all she wants - I'm not sure if she knows either. She's probably just a bit confused/emotional/excited with everything being a first time mom.
