Nail clipping

I'm having alittle problem with clipping casey's nails, i don't know if this is normal. I'm using this nail clipper called Bamboo Nail Clipper from petsmart and im starting to wonder if they're any good at all. Whenever I cut Casey's nails the bottom base seem to peel off and the quick in his nails seems to grow longer and into the nail that in 2 weeks i wouldn't be able to trim it Normally would have to wait a month.....i hope im clear, if i can't find another better nail clippers hopefully the groomers would be able to fix it.

Which type is it, guillotine? or scissor type? True the quick will grow if the nails aren't kept short. Are you able to get any of the nail off? I gave up on the nail clippers and went to a dremmel. It's faster, you're less likely to hit the quick, and the dog does not mind it as much. tonight my dog actually slept through it!

I totally agree with the dremmel idea. I'm working on socializing Faith to the sound now. I really don't like cutting nails, because you can get rough edges that make it sharper, and if the clippers aren't sharp, it can hurt the dog. You can get one online for pretty inexpensive and then slowly introduce it to the dog. First, let the dog see it without turning it on, and when he's comfortable, let him see it on. Encourage him up to it, maybe use food as a motive, or whatever he likes.

Yep i will be getting a dremmel as I have found that all types of nail cutters leave some blood under the nail at the very base this is usually noticable a day or two after cutting them, only can be seen on white nails though

i would sugest not using the nail clippers that are like a guitine. They will dull very fast and will cause the nail to peel. I use the one that is like a sissor type of cut. It works well, and doesn't dull very fast. Then i use a nail file to shape them so they aren't as sharp.

Hey people I went to the Dollar Store and bought a metal large file for toes. IT works great on the dogs nails. I really never need to cut my dogs as they run on limestone and cement walks. But, if I see an ugly one I file it down or smooth it off..

We take Buck and Rusty to the vet and he trims their nails. Or you could always ask the troll for help lol
