Flea's.......HELP!!!

Oh my Goodness, I'm ******** out here , I have just discovered my two cats have a bad case of fleas, the dog has had 3 on him too!!! I have had my cats for almost 11 years and this is the 1st time they have ever had fleas
I went out yesterday and bought lots of flea killing products and have blitzed the animals and the house but I'm still finding the odd live flea here and there not to mention all the live ones on the cats ( up untill I discovered the fleas the cats had the run of the house, bedrooms and all ) I feel sick, and feel as if my house isnt my own any more not to mention that the whole family are feeling loppy .
What can I do to make sure the fleas go and dont come back, I'm so shocked and discusted just now...I want my flea free home back please any help & advice would be most appreciated as I'm loosing my mind at this, stupid as this sounds but I feel violated *sigh*

Fleas n ticks seem worse this year than any. But, I am not so familar with cat fleas, I know my daughter got a dose of them and had a pro extermadtor to do her home, they multiply so fast, u had better work fast as one adult can lay 20,000 eggs, ugggg. Collars do not work, do not know if www.springtimeinc.com has cat products, I do not think so only dog, horse and human. Gee I do not know what to say other than bomb the house cover all wood, remove pets, get cat flea products a flea comb and try and comb them out and kill them...

Get them on Frontline or Advantix right away. Call your vet and ask if they have a flea bomb. You will need to arrange to leave your home for 24 hours when you bomb. Ask your vet if they board pets and while they are there have them give a flea dip. Then rent a hotel for the night.

This will drastically cut them down and the frontline should do the rest.

It takes 3 months to totally stop the life cycle of fleas. That is if you put your pet on frontline or advantage. These two products have an inhibitor which stops the flea from laying fertile/full eggs. But not all growth stages of a flea can be totally wiped out by pesticides, hence the 3 month rule. Bombs are ok, but a premise spray is better as as the residue produced from a bomb goes only straight up, then down. A premise spray can be put directly around baseboards, under/on furniture etc.You should vacate all animals when using sprays and use a face msk for yourself. Be careful what you use in conjunction with any topical product, you can overdose your pet! Vacuuming daily is very important! Throw away the bag afterwards.Best bet is to talk to your Vet. and get all the details of ridding a flea infestation.Good luck!

a solution =)

ok, this is what i have told all of my clients who are killing the retched fleas!!!

1. Buy frontline PLUS ( it works the best as i can tell ) This kills the fleas, flea larva, eggs and ticks... just a side thing =)

2. Get Ecto kill shampoo from your vet it is a strong shampoo and can be used in conjunction with the frontline. Just make sure that you wait 72 hours before and after applying the frontline before bathing.. frontline is waterprrof only after completeley dry.

3. Get capstar. Also at your vet. It kills adult fleas only for 24 hours, can be used several days in a row. And it can also be used with both the frontline and the Ectokill.

4. Go either to home depo or lowes, and get the stuff that has a nose to it so that you can reach under furtinuter ( thats where they are gonna go)
If you don't want to do that than if you have a yard service, they will sometimes also do the house inside as well as out.

5. As for the yard you can buy things at home depo or lowes that you can sprinkle on the lawn that will kil them, but make sure that it also kills the eggs... you may or may not be able to find that.. If you have a pest control than use them just make sure that you tell them you have fleas.

I hope this helps. But just a word of advice, fleas will be active for 3-4 months after you start to try and kill them, every day you will see new hatchlings, so don't get discuraged, they will eventually die.

Good luck your battle has just begun.

Also, this may sound gross, but you need to check ur cat and dog poo for worms because fleas carry worms. Yuck, I know! That's what happened to my Foxy, she had fleas when I got her and shortly I was finding worms all over the place. I had to take her to the vet because it was tape worm and the store bought meds don't kill tape. Appearantly, ur pet gets the worms from eating the fleas. I know, it's one more thing to worry about, but there is nothing worse than having ur pet sit on ur lap only to find that when they get up, you have a worm on u.

doglovin, i have to disagree with you on that. Reason being is b/c it was proven that Advantage works on 50 % of animals. I used to use it and belived it was a good product until i saw what it didn't do. Also, u can't use that product on Collies or dogs with very sensitive skin, it will burn them. ( but if your dog doesn't have a problem with it than i am not by any means saying u shouldn't keep useing it) this is just what i have witnessed in my own animals and in clients animals as well. =)

Thanks every one, I took them to the vet and was given frontline enough for 4 months for Bodie and 2 months for the cats ( will get more when this lot runs out) Also had them wormed and was given a large can of Household flea treatment ( the strong stuff) I have been vacuming and spraying like a woman possesed & as the cats have had free run of the house upstairs I have done the beds and every thing I can ( and will do them again tommorow lol) I'm washing every thing that was lying around and were ever possible tumble drying it. The flea's started to drop off the cats with in an hour or so of the treatment and I'm now finding dead of dying ones all over the kitchen floor( keeping the cats in the kitchen untill the worst is over) I'm so shocked at all this as my cats have never had these before and they are almost 11! The dog dosent appear to have been to heavily infested ( I only found 3 live fleas on him so far) but he is getting the same treatment as the cats, and all this just before christmas too ...oh dear!
