Talking alas, I have discovered the key!

Ahh, after three years, two dogs, and a half a million bathes, I have finally discovered the key to grooming a "pet" collie. I have been taught how to groom show collies, but it takes HOURS!!! It's an all-day job, and it never seems to be fun. But, my non-showing dogs don't need to be that way. So, today, I tried again. Every time I bathe my collie, I try something new to see how it works, and next time, I will do what I did today!
Here's what you need:

Zoom Groom
mixing bottle
good smelling shampoo
oatmeal conditioner
medium tooth comb
blow dryer
small slicker
undercoat rake
ear cleaner
toothbrush/toothpaste

Step 1: Brush the dog out with the undercoat rake completely removing any mats and being sure to get sensitive areas like behind the ears.
Step 2: Mix shampoo according to directions. Soak the dog and pour the mixture evenly over the back and sides of dog. Pour additional shampoo onto the dog and using the zoom groom, massage shampoo into the coat, making sure to reach the undercoat. Be sure to get all areas of dog and then rinse well.
Step 3: Apply conditioner on dog, leave on for two minutes, then rinse.
Step 4: Begin drying on high (no heat) and combing through hair at the same time. Start from the top of the dog and go to the bottom. Completely dry the coat and continue combing until there are no mats and tangles.
Step 5: Finish coat off with a run through of the slicker.
Step 6: Clean ears and teeth.
Step 7: Smell your unstinky dog!

Total Grooming time: Approximately 2 hours!

Wow on time! Very detailed, I don't think I could ever own a collie!

lol, try owning over 10 at a time. I don't know how my stepmom does it everyday. Just a week over there every summer nearly kills me. It's a lot of work for just Faith, imagine trying to groom 3-4 rough collies and 2 smooths all in one day, when it takes at least 3-4 hours per rough. It's fun, though, when they are all finished and ready for the ring. I'm just glad to get Faith done and smelling good so quickly. I keep walking up to her and sniffing her. She must think I'm a freak. lol.

Oooh I think I will stick to my Jacks much less work, but i give credit to you for careing for them the way they should be cared for, i know someone who has had collies all their life and they stink and have bad matts because of the care they are given

lol. I always give Kota extra pets after her bath because she is so soft after her hair drys. I don't use a blow dryer so I let her hair air dry. Honestly I think she would freak if I used a blow dryer. Have you ever used cologne on Faith? My company makes some for dogs. My favorite cologne that we make is Vanilla.

no, I've never used cologne. I love the smell of shampooed dog, so I guess I never thought about it. But inbetween baths, maybe...

Many of our colognes are the same scent as the shampoo's. So it just makes it even stronger. But yes, most people use them inbetween bathings.

Wowie. I'm glad I have a dog with a relatively easy coat.

Kirby has no undercoat, and the hair on his ears is the same as the hair on his belly, which is the same as the hair on his butt and the hair on his paws. It's all the same, it all gets the same treatment... No shine to worry about, it's all puffy.

lol, I guess I am a freak when it comes to grooming my dog, because other collie people usually look at me like "WHAT! I just brush her once a week... You do what???"

lol, I groom her fully once a week, brush daily with slicker/comb, and bathe every other month. But, she looks so good!
