Everyone, meet Luna.

Just when you think you are mired in the pit of despair for the rest of one's days there comes along a little ray of sunlight.
Never again would I get another dog I told myself during and immediately after Phoebe's illness and passing but then alone came an email from The Australian Animal Protection Society. I had contacted them wishing to make a donation to their worthy cause and explained my situation to them. They were of course very happy for any donations as they are a non profit organisation and do all their hard and worthy work out of love for animals. Enclosed in their email was a pic of a doggie that had been abandoned at their shelter and they did suggest that if I was going to make a donation perhaps the best way to do so would be to rescue a little one who needed a loving home and companionship.
Well I have both so yesterday I drove the 5 hours down to meet the doggie in their pic , a 10 month old Female Foxy Terrier/Jack Russell Terrier X named Luna. And instantly fell head over heels with the little madam. She is sooooo cute and so full of life it beggars belief how anyone could abandon her. So this coming Thursday I am driving down to pick up little Miss Luna after she has had all her shots and been desexed and vet checked and microchipped and all that stuff.
Phoebe can and will never be forgotten and will always fill a place in my heart the rest of my living days. But Luna will be my priority from now on and I hope to make her as happy and comfortable as I can by showing her true love and devotion. I enclose a pic of Luna sooooooooooooo everyone, say hiya to Luna please.

Aww that is wonderful. I am sorry to hear about Phoebe. You will always have a unique bond with Phoebe and may she rip. Luna is a pretty girl. I can't wait to see more pictures of her as she becomes comfortable with your family.

As I have written you personally, I am so happy to hear about your new baby. I hope you buy a digital camera (if you don't have one) so we can see pictures of her right away. Congratulations dad-to-be. She is so cute.

awww she's a cutie! I look up to people who rescue dogs. If we had enough room for another dog I'd want to rescue. I think that we have plenty of room in our home and lives, but my parents think otherwise.

Just an update.

Well I am finally into my new home and Miss Luna seems to have handled all the turmoil of staying in 3 different houses in her first week like a real trooper. It wasn't an ideal situation by any means in her first week with me but it really couldn't be avoided and she was really quite happy I think as long as she got to sit in the front seat of the car while doing all the travelling!!
It's a much warmer climate here where we have finally settled but she has such fine hair and is small so she should handle the heat better that a bigger dog. Of course I shall ensure she doesn't spend too much time out in the hot sun and has plenty of water to drink. My new house has a/c but it hasn't been over 90 degrees yet so we haven't needed it and she has been quite comfortable.
I took Luna to Phoebe's Patch as her grave has been Chistened by my sister who made a lovely stone to mark the area and has been tending the site and making it free of errant weeds and keeping the flowering plants well and truly watered. Funny critters these dogs, Luna was being a lil fractious and fussing a tad while we made our way to Phoebe's Patch but once there she sat silently at my feet while I spoke to Phoebe and then jumped up into my arms for a lick of my chin as we left.
It's nice being up here close to family again and little Miss Luna (of course named Tyk by my young neice - as in Luna~Tyk) is having plenty of walks and eating lots of good food and getting plenty of attention she surely hadn't had before in her young troubled life. She loves to sit in peoples laps and is always very curious about whatever we eat for dinner or indeed any meal. My father gave her some porridge yesterday for breakfast and she wolfed it down the dear little thing. I suspect she may have been quite undernourished when I got her coz she never leaves a single crumb or smear of food in her bowl after a meal.
Anyhoo just thought you would like to know how things have been and because it's been so hectic with packing and moving arrangements I haven't had a previous chance to even get online until now.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for your kind comments during my recent loss and your best wishes for mine and Luna's future. If I could only stop her from snoring I am sure we will settle in even quicker , lol.
