Can you stud a non papered chow? Or does he have to be papered?

You can breed what ever you want.Even tho you will not be doing the breed any good .Do you plan on having at least the hips x-rayed to make sure they are good?

Most people only breed registered dogs, because you can go back and check the pedigree and find out about the ancestors of the dog. records have been kept and "most" defects are known. But not all papered dogs are a good canidate to use for breeding, only a few have the qualities to pass on to improve the breed. Show dogs are judged on these qualites to be breeding stock, at least that is the reason showing started. If you are thinking to make money few people will allow unregistered dogs to breed with there registered dogs, the pups would be ineligible to register. and not worth as much.

If you are asking if you would be able to make any money from studding out your non papered chow - then probably not. Although there is always the possibility that you may dependant on who wants to breed to your dog.

I would really caution you against studding him out. Not so much because of YOUR dog, but because of who you would be breeding to. Even our chi's [who aren't papered] we always bred to a papered male, simply because its good to know his health line etc.Has he had a full health exam, and breeding tests done??

Yes you can, but I wouldnt recomend it, because it goes against the reasons for breeding, it would just add to the rescue homes

Also, all dogs should be saved, however go to your local pound a PROMISE you will find chows, there are allready so MANY chows who need good homes!

Hi do you know your dog’s history at all, or could you possible go back to the breeder and see if there is any possibility that you could have the paper work?
Otherwise you could end up mating you dog to his sibling with out knowing it, To be honest if there is no chance of getting the paper work and he was my dog I would have him castrated, |

If your dog is unpapered, you can't show with any particularly registry. If you can't show, there's not much of a chance that someone will notice a particularly good conformation and want to breed their dog yours.
Exactly what traits are you wanting to extend? |
