Tarter build-up *pics*
Ottis has quite a bit of tarter build-up. Any suggestions to help wit that? He eat dry dog food. All our other dogs love carrots to help keep that down, but Ottis doesn't like them. Any good bones or something you would suggest? He is about Ten years old at the youngest, but probably older. We've known him for 8 yrs and when we got him the vet estimated him to be about 4-5, however he is just so energetic.

How about brushing his teeth daily?

Does he like dog biscuits? Also I'd brush. Those little finger brushes are a good into.

Raw bones are excellent for tarter build-up. Do you currently brush his teeth? I do both with Lilly but Riley only gets the bones because teeth brushing is too stressful for her.

i agree with everyone ont he raw bones, however, you will possibly need to get them proffecianaly cleaned first to remove all the tarter that it already caked on there already. don't feel bad though i am doing the same thing with my poodle =)

Teeth
I have brushed Ginger's teeth all her life. I have also gotten those dental picks and picked the tarter off. Not all dogs will let you do that though. If your dog is very gentle, you might want to try it.

I would first get a "scaler" they will help you get the tarter off. Then I would make it routine to brush his teeth every week or every-other week. Umm I use Greenies to help prevent tartar. I never heard of using bones but i will have to try it also. Good Luck getting your problem solved.
