Friends dog in bad shape

My best friend has a Cocker Spaniel approx 12 yrs old. She is Deaf, and blind due to her retina detaching in approx a weeks time.

The problem is that she has very severe diereah, the vet has said its collitus but i don't thing thats the underling problem. She is " firm" in the Am, semi firm in the afternoon , but by the evening she is loose. She is on a special diet and on medication, but if she eats ANYTHING besides the EN ( dry) and W/D ( dry) she will have diereah for approx one month streight. Her medication consits of Pred ( for her massive skin problems), and GCM for her " coliitus" and another medication for colitus as well ( but i have forgotten the name).

I have convinced her to get some blood work and seek a second opinin, but i am worried about the dog. ( Her name is Chole BTW). But she isn't THAT old for a cocker, but she is in very bad shape. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Poor dog! Is she suffering? I don't really have any suggestions I don't know what I would do if any of my dogs were like that, but I hope she gets better. I'm pretty sure cockers live longer than that but some dogs start going downhill before others. I hope she feels better and with yall luck!

HI Aria.

A spaniels average life span is 10-12 years so your friends dog is old. Our Springer Spaniel was 10 when he died, he also had terribel skin problems and went blind as well. He was a sad sight when he finally was put down.

Encourage your frined to get the vet work done but remember to remind her as gently as possibele, that the dog is old and if it is suffering the kindess thing to do for the dog is have it pts. Hard but true.

nods, i have come to that relization myself. The only thing is I KNOW that they won't do that... unless she gets so bad that she can't walk or do anything. So i am stuck between a rock and a hard place.
