A new breed I never heard of can you help?

Hi I was at a parayed on Sat. This lady had 2 dogs with her that I have never seen before. They were absolutley stunning. She said they are Greater Swiss Mountain dogs. The 8 month male weighed 75 lbs or so! I looked all through my Dog Fancys an Dog worlds but didn't see anything on them!
Has anyone heard of them? Thanks Kimberly

Is this what they looked like? There are actually 4 very similar breeds... this one and the Bernese Mountain Dog... I don't remember the other two.

I really like them a lot too. I like the Bernese I think more, but I don't think they would do well where I live. These guys are really beautiful, though. Look at that head on them!

Click on the link and it will take you to a page all about their breed...

I like this breed, very pretty dog.

Greater Swiss Mountain Dog
(in Canadian Kennel Club Miscellaneous Class)

Origin: The largest - and perhaps the oldest - of the four Swiss mountain breeds, the 'Swissy' descended from mastiffs that accompanied Caesar's invading legions. Like the Bernese Mountain Dog, this breed was used to assist the farmer and butcher by guarding and driving livestock and by pulling carts. In the late 19th century, it was assumed the breed had died out but in 1908, a famous dog expert of Zurich saw a Greater Swiss and urged breeders to find other specimens and save this ancient Alpine dog. The breed was gradually reclaimed in its native land and spread to other countries. The Greater Swiss was admitted to the American Kennel Club's Working Group in 1995.

Temperament: Easygoing and obedient with an even disposition, the breed is said to be bold and faithful.

Activity level: Alert and vigilant, this powerful breed is energetic and eager to work.

Height/Weight: An adult male may stand 25.5-28.5 in (65-72 cm) at the shoulder and weigh in the neighbourhood of 130 lb (58.5 kg). Females will be slightly smaller.

Coat: The short, thick, dense coat is weather-resistant. The breed also wears a thick undercoat.

Colour: The coat is the typical Swiss tri-colour - deep, lustrous black with white and tan trim on the feet, face, chest and tail.

Grooming: Regular brushing is all that's needed.

Swissys are a very real, very old breed. They are one of the four swiss cattle dogs (Bernese Mtn dog, Epenzller, Entelbutcher and the Greater Swiss mountain dog) They are a carting/herding/guard dog. and yes, they are very large, 75 lbs sounds about right for an 8 month old!

I've never seen a Swissy in person but they are supposed to be great dogs!! If their personality is anything like the Bernese then they are great!!

Hmmm what a beautiful dog. I can name a few dogs that could run in that dog's mouth and it would only think a gnat flew in. I personally wouldn't want the feed bill, it must be huge.
