Question scratching!?

Hi everybody!
I had a quick question about my boxer. She is always scratching her chest and chin. I always yell at her to stop so she thinks she sly and belly crawls around the carpet tryin to scratch herself. I took her to the vet and the vet told me that she probably has an allergy to somethin. But couldnt tell me exactly what!!! they put her on allergy medicine but this did nothing for her. I was wondering if anybody has had this problem and if so what caused it and what help? thanks so much.. really need your imput!!! ( this is not fleas)

There are lots of things your boxer could be allergic to, food for one. What kind of food do you feed ?

Next, do you use things on your carpet like febreeze or any other kind of cleaner, deoderizer ,carpet chemical ?

What do you use to clean your floors ?

If you have newer to new carpet the chemicals in the carpet may also play a role.

These are all thinkgs you need to look at.

I would start with looking at the food you feed first.

I feed her science diet and she has been on this same food since she was 6 weeks old. it all started when we moved into the house we live in now.. i have always used carpet fresh on the carpet and fabreeze. the carpet is not new so i am completley confused. i feel bad for her. i know she has to be miserable. poor baby.. is there anyway to find out what she might be alergic to? tests?

Probably not, and if there was it would cost a small fortune.

I would start with changing the food, science diet is not the greatest food and they use a lot of meat by product and stuff that you do not know what it is. When switching foods, if you do decide to do that, do it slowly, mix in the new food woith the old and gradually increae the amounts till you are only feeding the new food. Try to get one that has NO meat by-product adn lists what meats are in it. You can't buy a good food in the grocery store or dept store. Rule of thumb ? You get what you pay for.

There are companies out there that will shampoo you rugs with a pet safe dry shampoo. You may also want to do that , it also sounds like it may be the carpet but it is hard to say without having it cleaned and stop using febreeze and only use the pet safe deoderizer.

That is what I would do anyways and see how it goes.

wow thanks i never knew science diet was bad. always herd it was good. and i understand you get what you pay for... science diet must be over priced then because its more expensive than any dog food you buy in a grogery store. have any idea on what brand name? my dog is spoiled and i will only give her the best.. doesnt matter how much it costs.. thanks so much you have been such a help..

have you changed her shampoo lately or anything like that? I know certain kinds of soap, cleaner and even air freshener set my allergies off! good luck and hope she feels better soon.
